freshly squeezed

Project Description

stagejuice presents

freshly squeezed

More than twenty of Sydney’s most exciting emerging artists from a variety of disciplines including theatre, dance, sound art, music, visual arts, media, film and installation come together at workshops to jam, experiment, cross-fertilise and form new collaborations. Working with a common theme, the artists develop new works, conduct showings, offer each other feedback as well as take advantage of the mentoring of experienced practitioners. This culminates in an evening of short experimental works, a presentation of raw but promising ideas and never seen before collaborations.

In 2011, the freshly squeezed artists are investigating "SMOKE", as a stimulus, in any form, literal or not. This could be the sizzle of a bonfire, its effect on the environment, the dissipation of memories, an ache for that next cigarette, or just another trick up a magician’s sleeve. The open stimulus provides a working basis for the artists to test their ideas, explore new working relationships and develop their arts practice.

This year freshly squeezed will be taken to new heights, presenting a performance jam and forum at the CRACK festival in Newcastle early October, and playing at PACT centre for emerging artists, Erskineville in late October.

freshly squeezed is supported by PACT centre for emerging artists, produced by stagejuicecurated by Katy Green.

stagejuice needs your help!

We need funds to produce both of these events. Each donation will go towards venue and rehearsal hire, production costs and the mentorship fee of a experienced professional artist.

Every dollar contributes towards giving artists new opportunities to create and collaborate.

why support us?

freshly squeezed was founded out of a need within Sydney’s arts industry for more opportunities for young or emerging artists across all mediums to meet and collaborate. stagejuice wanted to make a short works night with an emphasis on development and ensemble. We provide the space and facilities, coordinate the group workshops, produce and publicise the event over a short season. freshly squeezed is an initiative run by artists, for artists.

It is an important breeding ground for interdisciplinary and experimental performance. It is a place to invigorate all forms. It aims to be a stepping-stone for further development of the works and collaborations it inspires, and to provide an opportunity for new performance makers to engage and stimulate audiences and the community.

Support this innovative artist-run initiative and the development of its artists!!

Project By

stagejuice is a Sydney-based hybrid art collective. Fusing performance, dance, visual media and installation, video, sound and music, we aim to create striking and sensual interactions between performer, technology, audience and space. Through collaboration, experimentation and investigation, we combine our individual style and skills to tackle issues relevant to our contemporary surroundings. Currently we love altering perspectives, shadows and diffusions, spaces inside spaces and interactions with strangers.

stagejuice formed in 2006 led by Katy Green as Artistic Director. Projects include Meeting Place (short dance film, 2010) in the shadows (PACT Theatre, 2009), ball (LiveWorks at Performance Space, 2008), and dancing with… (Quarterbred Festival at PACT, 2007). In 2010 stagejuice launched freshly squeezed, an annual collaborative and experimental lab for emerging artists.
