Art for Palmer Street
Project Description
ART FOR PALMER STREET is a project centered around the huge blank wall of the Brotherhood of St Laurence, on the corner of Brunswick and Palmer Streets in Fitzroy. The wall is currently covered in posters and tags from late night wanderers. Help nurture and promote the arts by supporting an artist to create a masterpiece on this blank canvas.
This highly visible wall can be seen by tram riders, drivers and walkers up and down Brunswick Street as well as by the traffic down Palmer Street. The artist will benefit from the exposure as well as directly from the commission we are hopefully able to raise through Pozible. The funding goal is $1,000 to cover the artist commission. The costs of paint and equipment has been sourced by other funding bodies with both the Brotherhood and window99 adding a large amount of in kind support.

Facilitating this project is window99 gallery, an installation space in the window of 99 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. It is a not-for-profit, artist run space, open 24 hours a day, everyday. window99 seeks to offer an alternative to exhibiting art within the white cube by moving the gallery into the public setting. This also provides artists with an opportunity to exhibit their work within a highly exposed, flexible window box for an affordable rate.
Opposite window99 is The Brotherhood of St Laurence. "The Brotherhood works not just to alleviate poverty but to prevent it". With the Fitzroy office specifically aiming to "strengthen the capacity of new and emerging communities to become active participants in the social and economic life of Australia". More info can be found at http://www.bsl.org.au/default.aspx
Please help to nurture and promote art in our community and beyond by supporting this project.
