WOLF is a 15-minute short film written and directed by Liz Cooper and produced by Bethany Bruce. The story is about a homeless teenage girl known as ‘Wolf’ living on the streets of Redfern in Sydney. Seen through Wolf’s eyes, the film explores the lived experience of female rage, institutionalization, addiction, poverty, class, family cycles, and forgiveness.

SYNOPSIS

Wolf, 15, strong bodied; fierce lives on the fringe. She sleeps in a squat and sells drugs to survive. She has volatile relationships with those around her and one more wrong move on her probation and she will be in jail. One day in the squat Wolf finds an abandoned baby and she is faced with a decision that changes both their lives.

WHY THIS STORY

WOLF is an important story to us and to everyone who helped shoot the film. We are now graciously asking your help to finish the film. As a filmmaking team, Liz and Beth are passionate about telling stories of people and places not often seen on screen. Wolf explores a Sydney that is cold and isolating for anyone who isn’t privileged and powerful, a city that is fast being redesigned and redeveloped. We wanted to tell this story authentically, and to do that we looked to the community to cast Wolf.

RAW TALENT
Kerri Ragusa who was selected for the role after months of community casting (and who is pictured in all the stills as Wolf) blew us all away. Liz met Kerri in a Coles shopping centre and asked her to do a quick video audition. Liz spent many months rehearsing with Kerri to prepare her for her first role on screen. We can’t wait to share with you Kerri’s performance in the film, her raw talent has been unearthed. Her passion for the project energised all the cast and crew throughout the filming of Wolf and we're so thrilled for her break-out performance in this role.

HELP US FINISH THE FILM AND WIN REWARDS IN EXCHANGE!
The short film was selected for a Screen NSW Emerging Filmmakers Fund of $30,000. Kristina Ceyton (producer, THE BABADOOK) and Sam Jennings are the Executive Producers of the film. Due to the film's budget being $35,000 we are seeking to raise an additional $5,000 for post-production. Our dream target is $7,000.  Any additional funds raised over $5,000 will be used for festival entries and for a website to promote the short film.

We have now shot the film and are grateful to all the cast and crew for generously donating time and discounted rates to get the film made. We now need the help of the flmmaking community, our friends and family to finish the film at a quality level. Transmission Films and  John Platt have generously donated to the Pozible campaign and  Definition Films is the film's post-production partner.

The Challenges

The biggest challenge in bringing a quality short film to life on a small budget. For filmmakers, short films show you - the audience, what we can do - and why we should be worthy of your attention. Shorts are also important career stepping stones for early career filmmakers. With over 20 cast members and many shooting locations, it was by the sheer force of will and determination that our wonderful cast and crew got the film shot. We are so grateful to our cast and crew. Thank you, and thank you to all our POZIBLE supporters, who will help us finish the film.

The second biggest challenge was casting the role of Wolf. The process took several months and we auditioned many actors and non-actors. Through a long process we were lucky to find Kerri Ragusa. Below:
