"The Nexus of Spanish Keyboard Music and Dance"
Encuentros Españoles (Spanish Encounters) celebrates the nexus of Spanish music and dance and is the first international festival of its kind in Australia. A range of exciting events will be on offer during the week of 19 to 27 October at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music including:
* Innovative concerts featuring unique fusions of Spanish classical music and dance
* Fascinating lecture/presentations
* Masterclasses and workshops by renowned Spanish music experts.
ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM
Exploring links between flamenco dance and the keyboard music of the great Spanish nationalist composers such as Albéniz, Granados and de Falla, the program will showcase distinguished international and local artists, dancers and composers who share a common passion for Spanish music.
The Symposium will assist pianists to develop an appreciation of the dance sources that underpin much Spanish music, helping to inform their approach to its performance and allowing them to arrive at a deeper and more truthful interpretation.
