'If It's Catchy, It Means You Stole It' is a feature documentary on Sydney musician/independent record label boss Nic Dalton. Dalton has played in over 65 bands (and counting!), most notably Boston's The Lemonheads during the peak of the "alternative" boom in the early 1990's.
Dalton co-founded independent record label 'Half A Cow' with Miles Ferguson in 1990 which has gone on to release over 150 titles in it's 22 year history. Artists such as Art Of Fighting, Crow, Godstar, Love Positions, The Plunderers, Kim Salmon, Sidewinder & Smudge.
Interviews with key figures in the Dalton/HAC story will be interwoven with animation, rare unseen footage and performances.
Director & Producer Jarrad Kennedy has a strong background in the visual arts. His practice incorporates short film, sculpture, painting and drawing. In 2011 he received his Masters in Art - Art In Public Space from RMIT. He also holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from Victorian College Of The Arts. 'If It's Catchy, It Means You Stole It' will be his feature film debut.
Director of Photography & Co-Producer Robert McCafferty has been producing film clips for the last 10 years for various Melbourne bands. Robert also directed the award-winning documentary 'A Weekend In The Country: A History Of The Meredith Music Festival' which premiered at MIFF (2006). He continues to document the Meredith & Golden Plains festivals.
Funds generated will be used to cover equipment hire, film transfer, legal clearances and mastering.
We aim to have the film completed by September 2012 to submit for the Boston Film Festival in April 2013.
