Alchemy is a full length album that is going to be recorded at Alan Eaton and Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne. It is going to cost over $12,000 but I am seeking HALF of that amount with the hope that we may even surpass our goal and have the release fully supported in time to record!
It accompanies a show that is already booked to tour extensively both nationally and internationally in 2012/13. Including both Adelaide and Edinburgh Fringe Festival and an extensive tour of capitol cities and regional venues throughout Australia in 2013.
I am very excited at the prospect of recording Alchemy, which is the follow up to my debut studio release Jazz Cigarette. On this first recording I was lucky enough to have the incredible James Morrison playing trumpet on not only 'Georgia on my mind' but also on an unique version of Britney Spears 'Oops I did it again'. How am I going to top this you ask? Three words 'Salt 'n Pepa'. Ok, one of those words is really just half of an indefinite article but Alchemy is going to include covers of songs that some people may think of as trashy but I plan to make into gold...
Working alongside one of Australia's finest jazz pianists and arrangers Sam Keevers, I have drawn on all of my influences from Opera, Burlesque and trashy 80’s pop divas for inspiration to create unique hybrids from popular songs, standards and blues.
Expect to hear unique mash-ups and genre-defying versions of Madonna, Salt 'n Pepa, Radiohead and Elvis like they were sung by a 40's siren in a Las Vegas club.
As the next 3 months of fund raising enfolds I will update everyone with updates on both Facebook & Twitter as well as my mailing list. There will be news on the progress, exclusive photos and videos of the recording process and shows along the way.
You can also help by spreading the word via Facebook, Twitter, mother's club, your weight watchers or AA meeting, in a group email to all of your most talkative aunts - whatever it takes to get the word out. BIOGRAPHY
Ali's first musical love were the songs of the 'Ladies of Jazz' Ella, Dinah, Sarah, Julie and Billie. She went on to study music at the Royal Northern College of music in the UK and became a principal soprano for Opera Australia.

After being lured into the dark world of cabaret via she went on to perform all around the world in fringe festivals, the west end and shady New York cabaret clubs. Her debut album Jazz Cigarette featured James Morrison and was released in 2010. It coincided with her show of the same name that toured throughout Australia and at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010/11
