The Pitch
Back in 2008, when Twitter and other social media sites started popping up and became popular, the world discovered that it wasn't just Facebook that ruled the internet. Having used most social network and media sites out there, we realized that it was our turn to put our own mark on the internet. A full day of brainstorming resulted in the idea of Globetrotter, a social site with the sole intent of being created by the user for all to see. We adapted it to a globe, so everything seen and done around the world shows up exactly where it happened.
If you've ever wondered what exactly the internet would look like, then this is the closest any idea on the planet has to offer. It defines and visualizes the web in a beautiful array of intertwining posts, links, and user-created content laid out on the globe, constantly moving and updating like a never-ending, chaotic cycle. If you ever though about who created the internet, then this is your chance to create the visualization of the internet.
The Quick Facts

Impact

Seeing Globetrotter's potential impact on the world is visualizing how much news is breaking around the world at any given time; not just world news, but sports updates, local news, your friends' news, and live events. But it isn't a news site, like any social media you choose what appears. Whether that be the What's Hot feature that automatically pinpoints what's hot, or if you switch to Scoreboard mode, and get a mass flood of rotating bubbles of information, much like a rotating stock board. Globetrotter is the perfect representation of your fast-moving world.
For this thing to work we're gonna have to make an app for everyone to use so they can update on-the-go, from their phones and tablets, to keep the rest of us stuck on our laptops and computers interested. What's fun in seeing your posts come from that same location on Earth every time? Wouldn't you want everyone to see you in Texas as its happening, not just a week later? So that's where we want to put this money, because making a free app for everyone to use is important.
We want our final outcome site to show what is going on around the world all in one place. So for your private lives you've got a globe of streaming posts from your friends, showing up where they were posted, and then for the news and broad-spectrum you have articles, videos, live feed coming out of this map, with hot activity being noted. It's better than a newspaper, because it has all the newspapers of the internet, the independent blogs, the viral videos, the popular tweets, in one convenient map.
Other Ways You Can Help
Our true test of merit will be getting Globetrotter popular, so we can expand and turn a community of explorers into a world of adventurers. To do this, spreading the word out to all your friends and enemies is a win-win. In fact, if you don't want to donate, then just tell a bunch of people and we'll feel justified that you did your part to get us going.
We also have blogs on Tumblr and Blogger, as well as a Twitter Feed. Also a Facebook page. Like, follow and reblog. We try to keep things interesting and when the site is finished we will have some awesome contests, too. Even if you donate $1 you are the beginner of what will be the manifestation of hopefully many people. Also, when we go live sign up. What we're offering is a one-of-a-kind experience that you and your friends' will hopefully enjoy to the brink of insanity.
