Based on a true story. A female police detective in charge of investigating alleged rape cases is overwhelmed because she has gotten emotionally attached to her work. To make things worse she discovers she and her daughters have been victims of illegal hidden camera acts. She faces difficulty balancing her career, her children and coming to terms with her hidden secret, and has to come to terms with it somehow. Through counseling and the support of a fellow police officer, she finds a way. Her underlying need is to help other police officers understand the real harm to the victims in a system that does not fully "get it".
I am located in Philadelphia, Pa, having moved here after living in the San Francisco Bay area for over 16 years. I have been an independent filmmaker for the last 10 years, taking on projects that range from Public Service Announcements to featurette, music videos, to promotional video projects for non-profits and to documentaries. Subjects covered range from rape and incest, hiv/aids, educational disparity, and better customer service for community facing public agencies. I write, produce, direct and edit. I have acted as an extra on Monk in Los Angeles, and feature films in the San Francisco Bay area. I have a strong interest in using the film medium for it's informational as well as entertainment value. All of the projects I have completed focus heavily on solutions to the problems that tend to adversely impact all communities.
The funds will be used to complete the script, secure ample inventory, develop the curriculum, and get the film into film festivals. It will also be used to get the completed package to police conventions.
Working closely with the detective whose life the story is based upon, use it to educate law enforcement official on the impact of sexual abuse on its survivors. We want to distribute the project to other police officers at yearly conventions, and use it as part of her curriculum to educate more officers on the impact of rape and incest. Also, she wants to help "put a face" to the SURVIVORS of these crimes. The reward are to share in the proceeds from sales and distribution of the product equal to the percent of contribution an investor makes.
I will leverage the relationship I have with the originator of the story to get into the established police network. I will use facebook, twitter, film festivals, and local media to spread the work, and I will incorporate an opt-in email system to keep the community apprised of the project as it develops. I will go to the various police conventions to promote the project and secure sales/distribution. Finally, I will secure the right legal representation to make certain every opportunity to promote the project, and to uncover new avenues for distribution/sales are leveraged.
