Who we are and what we do

Creative Media is a project that gives the chance for young people especially around the age of 11-17 to get involved in the world of media. We give them free roam around what they do and what they create along with the help of experienced media personal. If someone wants to write the film we let them, if someone wants to act in the film we let them. If someone wants to learn post production and professional programs such as After Effects, Premiere Elements and Sony Vegas we let them. We want to offer the children the best possible experience for the media world and to get the chance to put their creative minds at work. The final projects will then be put on sale to the world, along with being entered into film festivals so that we can ensure that the children benefit and get something out of doing it. We will work with different groups of people from Scout Groups to Youth Clubs to after school clubs the background or story of the young person doesn’t matter. Within media anything is possible.

We will visit different groups of young people e.g. the scouts. Pitch our idea to them about getting them involved and what they will get out of the experience. Then see what they have to say. If they are up for it then we will stay with them for around 20 Weeks creating what they want. We will split the groups into mainly two sections “the crew” and “the team”. The team will be working on writing the script, acting in the film and coming up with the general idea for the short film. The crew however will be mainly working on the technical aspects and the behind the scene part of the films. They will be learning things such as sound, lighting, camera angles and camera shots. Along with how to edit the films and do the effects needed.

If they feel that the work is getting boring the group can swap around and mix so they are not sticking to one job. We want to give the children the experience that they are in charge and they manage the project. They learn off of their own back and turn up because they want to not like school where they have too. The entertainment industry is worth a staggering $2 trillion. With so many people wanting to get involved in media and within the film industry we feel that it is important that young people recognise that it is enjoyable to be practical and to get out and do something different rather than your average football or PlayStation game.

Where goes my money go?

You may be asking what is money is going to go towards. The money primarily is going to go towards equipment and the necessities for the group. As we will be supplying all the equipment to the different sections we visit so we need to have a wide variety of gear. This will be things such as Cameras (Camcorders), Microphones, lights, Computer upgrades, software and the learning packs to provide education. By learning packs we mean to print and buy recourses such as books and tutorials for the children to watch and read in their own time or as the sessions. Other parts of the money will go towards making extra sessions available for the children if they want to learn more for this we would need costs for room hire and travel. All the money will go towards things that help benefit the children and nothing less. Everything will be for an educational purpose only.

Have we started?

The answer is yes, we are working on a short film with a bunch of students at the moment. The film is a horror rated a 12a and is titled missing persons. You can find more about it on the website. Here is the short description of the film written by the writer of the script who is just 14 years old.

“When I moved up from primary school I thought that science would be blowing things up and making chemicals. However I soon found out this was not the case. When I started learning about media and the film world I took an interest in writing films. The short film that I wrote is called Missing Persons and is about a mad scientist that got fired from his job working for the government. He then becomes a science teacher at a secondary school but decides that he hates it. One of the girls at the school has a strong interest in science and begins to do some extra work with the teacher. However she gets bullied because she isn’t cool enough. One day whilst she is in detention she spills some chemicals onto one of the bullies and it burns her causing a mutation. The professor sees this and goes mad at the student as it kills the bully. The professor hides the body but more children start to disappear…… The short film ends with a zombie butt kicking action scene between two of the naughty children at the school and the mutated missing persons. The film entails love, drama, action and best of all my ideas!”
