All public toilets are inspected by the Health Department or the local counsel.

Our school toilets are the only toilets that are NOT!

How many times have you walked into a public toilet and there has been no soap or your child has complained about the school toilets?

If the lack of soap in our public toilets and schools disgusts you, read on. We have the answer!

Introducing the Soastream Project

There are 3 stages to the Soapstream Project .
Soapstream Commercial – commercial hand hygiene systems
Sustainable school education programs- Serious Games 'Grimestoppers'

Soapstream Residential – solid soap handwashing/dishwashing/the bath system attached to most taps in the home , RV, Caravan or boat.

How Soapstream Began

Our initial development was around a residential solid soap delivery system that would attach to household taps. It was a simple system that housed soap and swung in and out of the water flow delivering soapy water to clean dishes, for washing hands, or just for a bubble bath for the kids. It would also great in the boat or RV. Jane loved it!

With the onset of the swine flu we authorities telling us all "Wash your hands. it is the first line if defence against Swine Flu". Then the media started to report about thousands of mothers ringing the Health Dept and complaining about there being no soap at our schools. We began researching hand hygiene practices across the global community and confirmed the lack of soap availability in public toilets and particularly in schools, mainly due to vandalism.

What are kids actually doing ?
Our research has uncovered some imaginative ways to vandalise soap systems! These include throwing the soap, emptying the liquid soap to enable skiing on the toilet floor, squirting the soap onto your hand and wiping it on someones back, sticking needles up inside for unsuspecting users, setting them on fire, jamming soap and other objects into the faucett, graffiti, licking/drinking the antibacterial gel ( desperate but apparently the alcohol content can give you a buzz!) and my personal favourite.... urinating in the liquid soap dispensers.

With this in mind and a fresh vision we began a long and extensive process dedicated to designing a strong, practical hardware system which worked on the same principals as the household system however could not be vandalized.

Why the Soapstream System Works

The system has been designed with a water saving timeflow tap/faucet (many countries have chronic water shortage) with the system itself being made out of brass and very robust. The system is brilliantly (even if I do say so myself) designed so that the public cannot remove, destroy or gain access without a special tool available only to cleaners! Sneeky! The hardware is coated with an antimicrobial substance eliminating the growth of bacterial or viral infection. The soap design is also patented and fits snugly into the hardware maximizing surface area and discouraging others trying to copy the product.

The soap has an antimicrobial ingredient reducing harmful bacteria and microbes. Each soap provides up to 350 hand washes making the system the most cost effective vandal resistent hand hygiene system AND it is available on all taps at all times in the toilet block!
The ongoing savings on soap costs pay for the system. Design of the hardware means that soap is not physically touched eliminating bacterial transfer between users.

Hardware design also simplifies the handwashing process enabling the youngest and oldest in our community to wash their hands independently.

In early intervention teaching it is almost impossible as the kids cannot physically juggle a liquid soap bottle and tap at the same time. With the soap available at the water source there is a greater chance of people washing their hands WITH soap.

In a Nutshell

The fundamental advantage of the Soapstream technology is that it is extremely robust and still utilizes the most common and cost effective method of hand hygiene, a solid bar of soap. It does away with the main disadvantages; cross contamination, soap theft/loss, mess, vandalism and occupational health & safety issues that have driven the growth in more expensive liquid soap and alcohol based products. These products have their own issues( expensive, easy to empty/ vandalise, foam soaps get wiped onto childrens clothes when mucking around, not available in the toilets and the kids can get drunk on them) and have created a level of customer dissatisfaction which will assist in the uptake of the Soapstream product. We have the simple solution to an age old problem.

Field trials completed, patents lodged and the market already responding to our website we have many expressions of interest both in Australia, England and the US we are now ready to go into manufacturing......but surprise, surprise the banks are not interested in helping us, hence we are turning to you guys to help us get it off the ground.

Stage 1. (Current funding application)$120,000

This will enable tooling and our first Soapstream Commercial production run. Early indications are that most schools and public toilets will change over to the Soapstream system due to its vandal resistance and ongoing cost effectiveness with no waste from dripping soap dispensers and the use of a water saving faucet. If we visit a school personally the response seems to be, " If you had them in the boot of your car now I would grab them".

Stage 2 (Next funding round)..... and the fun part 'Grimestoppers'.

This is explained here so that you understand our vision for the future.
After developing the vandal proof hardware we realised that it was only part of the puzzle needed to reduce the spread of influenza and dysentry in our schools. We needed to make it cool for kids to wash their hands and this is where Jane, the teacher, comes in. After 26 years working mostly in Deaf education with kids of all ages and disabilities, Jane knows how to motivate kids to establish good practises. All current games we researched encouraging hand hygiene at school were basically boring! We decided to come up with a game that was exciting, challenging, engaging and where the kids were spurred on by rewards in both cyber and real time. Our kids become 'Grimestoppers" and enlist to rid their school and environment of disease and infection and make the school toilets a place to respect.

So, this is our second stage,'Grimestoppers', the purpose of which is to change children’s habits so that hand washing becomes a natural behaviour which they will carry through to adulthood.
As a brief introduction, 'Grimestoppers' is based around a virtual school where a child's personalised avatar tracks down other kids who are glowing green because they haven't washed their hands and have become infected. Points are scored for disinfecting players, that mouldy sandwich lying in the corner or that monsterous dripping germ, and can be traded for upgraded disinfecting equipment and protective gear, ( just think, a double sink fitted with Soapstream taps can disinfect twice as many kids! ... as can a high powered atomic soap blaster). As levels increase the skills required for success also increase making the game challenging, motivating at all levels and hopefully addictive enough to be played at home.
Personal avatars will need to be maintained making sure to wash their hands before eating and after going to the toilet ... as we do in real time. As goals are achieved the children will receive the rewards, points for shopping within the game, certificates at the school assembly, movie tickets, MacDonalds vouchers etc which will be sure to keep them motivated and continue practising good hand hygiene. There is after all a 'Grimestoppers' code of conduct ensuring the skills in the game are practised in real time which the children will proudly display on their bedroom wall.

Getting the kids hooked early is the key. Starting from grade 1 each year ( or earlier) we will develop an upgraded version of 'Grimestoppers' for 7 consecutive years. Longevity, generalisation and most importantly FUN, are fundamental to getting our kids to wash their hands. And they wont even know they are doing it!
The game will be offered to schools to supplement and support use of the Soapstream hardware and form the basis of an educational system which is sustainable and also able to be accessed away from the school. So far the concept, characters and rules of 'Grimestoppers' have been established by us in conjunction with the games developer (who had an association with the Harry Potter online game). Our name is trademarked and we are ready to go into production. The developers can't wait to get their hands on it!

Stage 3 (Final Funding Round)Soapstream residential, the domestic model has been developed, patented and requires only cosmetic changes prior to going into manufacturing.

This system is easily clipped to the end of most kitchen, bathroom and laundry taps and is great for use in your RV, boat or caravan. The models will come with soap pellets designed for a variety of purposes including dish washing, hand washing and a degreasing formula.

Inclusion in the home will not only generalize the skill of hand washing for kids but will provide a simple alternative to washing hands and utensils during the cooking process saving time, money and mess!

Jane has said as a woman, teacher, mother, cook, cleaning lady, councillor and general house ferret this is the one she loves the most and can't wait to have it back on my kitchen tap! "It is brilliant when I am cooking and need to wash a pan or chopping board, hands, or whatever without filling the sink and was totally "NOT IMPRESSED" when it was taken off the tap to give to the soap designers"! It would be on every tap in the house if Jane had her way.

Its great when the kids want a bath and we can either just use the childrens bath wash or the bubble bath. It is always a problem with how do you get soap into the bath now the problem is solved.

Ready to Go!

Having finalised the field trials, established support and recieved many expressions of interest from schools and local Councils, Soapstream commercial is ready and waiting to begin the manufacturing process. We have already established methods and contacts for tooling, manufacture, storage and distribution, have a waiting market, strong interest from a large US company and support from an English organization aimed at improving toilet facilities throughout the UK.
Our journey has been long and complex but because of this we believe we have all bases covered and enough support to know that our system solves a huge global problem and will be very successful. WE ARE NOT GIVING UP! (Despite the banks negative attitude) Which is why we have come to you! We would appreciate your support to help start the most valuable part of the project and get the vandal proof hardware out to where it can help.

Please help and you will automatically become part of our 'Global Hand Hygiene Revolution'

Your help will go a long way to solving the issues of transmittable disease within our schools, communities and maybe even across the world. Hopefully our passion will become yours!

What if we raise more than our target?

Our stage 1 target is $120,000 Should we raise in excess of the above target and reach the following:-

$380,000 will enable us to commence stage 2, the first level of the educational program 'Grimestoppers' allowing completion within approx 5 months.

$650,000 will enable us to commence stage 3, the Soapstream residential for the house, boats, caravans and RV's allowing completion within about 6 month (and get Jane off my back)

The more money we raise, the quicker we can reach more countries and ultimately have soap in more toilets! We can start all stages at the same time and it will allow us to build bigger, better, more complex and exciting version of 'Grimestoppers'

Please spread our message and details of this site to anyone you know associated with education...or children...or who has a child... knows a child... has ever used a public toilet with no soap...has ever vandalised a toilet in their youth.....has been sick with a cold or dysentry.....who opens a public toilet door with their elbow or little finger.... is concerned about the health of the aged... young....or disabled.....who is in charge at their school for finding the impossible solution to the soap problem.... or who just cares about hand hygiene !

If you are a headmaster or a school administrator, run a daycare centre or a retirement village please feel free to buy as many taps as you want. The more the merrier! OR just buy 1 to try it out.

Follow on if you are interested in learning more about the problem...

Approximately one-fifth of the population attends or works in a school in the US. The US Center for Disease control(CDC) reports that 164 million school days are lost per year. There are 25 days lost per every 100 Americans per year for diarrhea, second only to the common cold. Teacher illness costs time and money. Costs add up for substitute teachers, re-teaching absent students, lost workdays for parents

CDC also reports on a daycare group where all children on arrival were helped to wash their hands by staff. After parents had left, wipes were used to disinfect whatever they had touched. These centres showed a reduction in illness of 50%

The US Center for Disease Control (CDC) confirms, "Handwashing is the single most important means of preventing the spread of infection." A Wirthlin study of 305 Detroit students washed their hands four times a day resulting in 24% fewer cold and 51% less stomach upsets.
