YOU CAN BRING KEEP SMILING! THE HOUSEWIFE'S GUIDE TO LIFE!

The Colour Blind Project are wanting to take their latest production, Keep Smiling! The Housewife's Guide, a bawdy, farcical, and at times haunting, tale of six women, to the stage at The Bondi Pavilion Theatre.

In development since 2010, this is a tale of survival, but always with a smile. It’s inspired by a selection of female characters written by William Shakespeare – but is no ordinary Shakespearean adaptation.

Think Mad Men-meets-Desperate Housewives-meets-Shakespeare!

Heavily inspired by social and cultural trends and events of the 1960s, the play is also inspired by real stories of real women from Sydney.

Those who have seen the work in development have laughed, cried and been thoroughly entertained and we think it’s time for Sydney Audiences to share in their experience.

WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING?

The Colour Blind Project is a not-for-profit independent theatre company.

For Keep Smiling! The Housewife's Guide to be the most exciting bold and refreshing new independent work staged in Sydney in 2012, we need YOUR help to raise at least $8,000 to cover our production costs.

What exactly are these costs? They include:

  • Venue hire at The Bondi Pavilion Theatre
  • Set Construction to recreate the world of the 1960s
  • Costume and Props
  • Production Crew
  • Production Design
  • Rehearsal Space Hire

WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID SO FAR

At once poignant, peculiar and painfully proper, the work is a living snapshot of that tension-filled moment in history when the thoroughly modern woman was teetering on the edge of her tolerance threshold."

“...Who knew that Shakespeare had such insight into the problems of the modern woman with their men! This show was a delight to discover”

“It was wonderful! The (Shakespeare) monologues opened up enormous chasms of pure emotion (in me) that I didn't expect. They were a wonderful way of splicing rich, dense, lovely Shakespeare with 60's Aussie vernacular!”

“This play is ‘Everywoman’. It portrays the internal real world of women’s lives juxtaposed against the external world of social position and social expectations. We feel for each character as she unravels ...And we understand how and why the women are so quick to physically and metaphorically put the smile back on each other’s face... Very clever!”

“This shows needs it's own full season!! AMAZING job”

                          FAQ

Can I buy a reward as a gift?

Yes! If you would like to donate to the production but send the reward to someone else as a gift, go through all the normal process of making a donation in your name (necessary for billing purposes). Then send us a message through Pozible or email [email protected] to let us know the name and address of the person you would like to receive the reward.

When is the actual season for the show?

The Bondi Pavilion Theatre has booked us in for a 3 week season from 1 19 May, 2012. If you support us, we’ll keep you informed with all on-sale info, production news and more!

What do the rewards look like?

Photos of all rewards will be available soon, and uploaded to this page!

How will I get my reward?

Once we reach our deadline (Thursday 5 April) we will message everyone who has donated, confirming postal addresses for rewards, and any other information required. Please reply to us as soon as possible so that we can order and post your reward.

                          Can we exceed the goal?

Yes! $8,000 is the absolute minimum we require to get this production off the ground and will involve asking for a lot of sacrifices and favours from all cast and crew. We'd love to raise more! Every extra dollar will go towards making this production a landmark for The Colour Blind Project! Pozible allows us to keep every dollar donated to us before the project deadline (Thursday 5 April).
