Petrichor - Visual Arts Graduation Exhibition 2012
What's this project about?
The Diploma of Visual Art students at the Southbank Institute of Technology are making plans for our graduating exhibition. From June 6th to 9th our exhibition 'Petrichor' will showcase a collection of quality artworks and installations and herald the emergence of a new wave of fresh creative talents in Brisbane.
Each year the mid semester graduation exhibition is project managed by the graduating students, who are responsible for design, promotion and marketing, catering, raising sponsorships and funds for the event.
The aim of this project is to raise a proportion of funds which would enable us to ensure our exhibition 'Petrichor' is of a professional standard, and that the opening event is a vibrant and enjoyable evening for exhibiting artists, peers and our visitors.
'Petrichor' exhibition will open on 6th June from 6-9pm at Southbank Institute of Technology.
How can your donations help us?
Your donations would help us cover costs of the finer details of the opening event, such as:
- creating a zine of our artworks
- providing delicious food and refreshments
- hire local muscians who would play live music during the event to add to the atmosphere of celebration

The ‘Petrichor’ group is comprised of 16 students of differing ages and cultural backgrounds graduating this June with a Diploma of Visual Art from Southbank Institute of Technology (SBIT), South Brisbane, Australia. Over the past two years, we have worked hard to develop not only our skills in exploring a variety of media, but also our identities and networks as emerging artists.
During our time at the Southbank Institute we have been trained in areas of painting and drawing traditional and contemporary, three dimensional works in traditional media and sculptural forms, printmaking traditional and contemporary, ceramics and photo imaging with new technologies. In our exhibition you will see the highest quality works which have evolved through processes to levels of resolve that are of exhibition standard.
We are now eager to showcase our achievements in this exhibition which would complete a very important step in our efforts to establish ourselves as professional artists. On the opening night we have invited industry representatives, peers, galleries and other educational providers within the arts.
We are determined to make our mark and effectively expose and promote our talents so as to move forward to the next level in our careers whether that be further education, practicing artist, or small business.
