Alex Watts

Hi, this is Alex Watts, myself and the Foreign Tongue have just finished making two of the best singles we have committed to disc thus far and are now calling for fans, friends and well-wishers to help create a new music video and website to accompany the releases.

In the year since the release of Desperate Love, the band's lineup has changed, we've spent a lot of time performing together, and the overall sound of the group has become a lot more defined, which, in turn has had an effect on the kind of songs I bring to the table. 

So I thought it was a good time to release some new music to give an update of where we are at in 2012, and I decided that this should come in the form of two strong singles rather than a long player.  That way I could give all my attentions towards making something that represented the group, was interesting and catchy and would have a good chance of introducing us to a new audience.

To make sure the material was as strong as possible, I took advantage of an invitation to be part of a songwriting mentoring program called Push Songs, curated by the legendary Charles Jenkins, to refine the songs that I had with Charles, Jen Cloher and Mick Thomas, with whom I co-wrote 'This Haunting'.

We spent one day at Melbourne's Head Gap Studios, working again with Adam Hunt, who recorded and mixed Desperate Love, laying down the basic tracks to analog tape, and completed the overdubbing process at various studios and houses around Melbourne, with members of The Australian Ska Orchestra contributing horn parts and local rocker Seri Vida helping out on backing vocals.  Once myself and Adam were satisfied with the mix we then put it in the capable hands of David Briggs for mastering magic.

Which brings us up to now.  Part of my plan for this project has always been to make a video to accompany 'This Haunting', which is part of a song cycle detailing the effects of lust, revenge and civility on a marriage.  This song takes place towards the end of the cycle, and finds the female protagonist, having previously murdered her philandering husband, in the twilight of her years, slightly unhinged, and convinced that her husband's ghost has come to claim her life.

In order to create a film clip that will suit the music and be able to convey visually the slightly complicated and surreal nature of the story, we need your help to make this dream a reality.  I decided to turn to Pozible and ask for your input in raising the necessary funds to complete the clip and to create a new dedicated website to help promote the releases and provide a slightly more sophisticated online presence than my current Bandcamp site.

To do things the right way is often expensive and being an independent artist means that funding is not always a guaranteed thing, but through the wonders of the modern age we are now bypassing the Old Label System and communicating with you directly!  We have devised a series of rewards available to you according to the level of donation you wish to pledge, these include access to exclusive content, CD packs, handmade artwork, songwriting sessions and private house concerts.  Hopefully, there is something there that will interest you.
