Some people hear callings luring individuals into the unknown. These callings stem from a curiosity, wanting to know what lies beyond the road and in the pine forests. For some the calling can become too strong and so they are ‘Drawn In’.

Drawn In is an exhibition that utilises narrative through the environment. Drawing upon that dense foliage of the Blackwood forests a selected group of emerging South Australian artists showcase site specific works to depict a gallery space within new light. This sculptural based exhibit is to illustrate how the mind utilises curiosity.

Drawn In is to be an exhibit that showcases site specific interactions with the unique landscape of Seedling Art Space. Sculpturally based, the 8 artists are to play off the space and the heritage of the venue; bringing emerging artist to the forefront of the arts within South Australia. The show is to include the artists Kate Power, Caroline Sugars, Grace Mitchell, Derek Sargent, Jamie Wearne, Madeline Bycroft, Gen Dawson-Scott and Olivia Kathigitis and with a catalogue essay by sue Kneebone. This selected group are graduating students from the sculptural program at the University of South Australia, not only will Drawn In be a landmark exhibition within their careers but it will be a great showcase of the work now produced by the school of arts.

The exhibition is to broaden the communities knowledge of contemporary sculpture and bring into sight emerging artists. The opportunities available for those just out of art school are incredibly limited and narrow; Drawn In has been created by curator Olivia Kathigitis to give this small group of artists a leg up and push into the next level. Running from the 4th – 19th of August, 2012, all are invited to interact with their local arts scene and on selected nights, torch tours will be held.
