Our Story

We had come across many inspirational quotes. We liked them, we agreed with them, but we never really did anything to LIVE by them. Until one day last year when...
We simply left our careers in Sydney and the big city life and began our thousand mile journey with a single step of... buying an old sailboat on the other side of the world (in Mexico) and decided to sail it back home - across the biggest of oceans, by ourselves, with no prior sailing experience, on a budget and we filmed every inch of the way.
We named our trusty old boat 'Heading Liberty', because after a constant feeling of slaving our youth away in office jobs, we wanted to travel the world to find and explore absolute freedom, to find places where success is not measured by money, where Facebook does not reach, where food is unmodified, where no paths lead and as far away from our comfort zones as possible.
So in June 2012 we flew from Sydney to Los Angeles to look for boat parts, spent two months in Mexico getting the boat seaworthy and in October 2012 departed on our grand adventure across the Pacific Ocean. During the 10 month voyage, we visited the most remote islands in the world, ran into both a cyclone and a coral reef, were drugged (although that turned out to be the fun part actually!;)), were rescued by the whole island of Tubuai, learned how to survive Bear Grylls-style and last but not least - met great, inspiring people whose lifestyle influenced us forever!
The Movie
The trip and everything about it turned out to be the hardest, harshest but at the same time the most beautiful and greatest experience of our lives. We departed on our quest for liberty across the Pacific, unaware that we will find so much more than expected!
We would love to share our story with other travellers, sailors and dreamers, hoping it will empower them to follow their dreams! May this doco be testament to the thought that 'if you follow your passion, life will not let you down'.
The Funds
We have spent all our life savings to make the story possible and to get this far. We also invested in cameras, sound and lighting eqiupment to enable us to cover the whole trip. However, we are still A$50,000 away from making Heading Liberty the movie happen!
The money needed for the completion of the movie will go towards:
- shooting some additional raw footage that is still missing (mainly that of the boat on the water)
- writing the script
- editing 90 minutes of material out of 100 hours of raw footage (which would involve 2 editors working full time for a period of 3 months)
- colour correction/ grading
- sound mixing, original soundtrack
- festival admissions (we'd like the movie to be screened at international film festivals)
- marketing campaign (print, online, publicity, creating the official website for the movie)
- postage and distribution costs (DVDs)
- the official red carpet premiere and the afterparty!
(Also 5% goes towards covering the pozible fees and 3% towards paypal fees hence using bpay or direct transfer saves us at least 3% of your donation)
