My Place Our Space is an innovative, intimate and fun multimedia exhibition sharing the stories of six young people from Beijing, China and six from Darwin, in Australia's Northern Territory. It is a celebration of Chinese and Australian culture and
friendship seen through the eyes of our young people.
Presented by Corrugated
Iron Youth Arts, the Northern Territory’s premier youth arts organisation, and partnering with Chinese theatre company Hua Dan, the
exhibition will be shown in both Darwin and Beijing in
2012, including the Darwin Festival with over 75 000 visitors each year!
Combining interactive new media technology, video installation and sound recordings, the exhibition explores the lives of these young people and their changing perceptions of ‘place’ – in their physical environments, their community, their homes and personal lives. With opportunities for audience members to interact with the stories and contribute their own perspectives, the exhibition provides a fresh insight into our two unique cultures and is an inventive tool for cross cultural sharing and exchange between Australia and China.
In order to present this exhibition we need to rent all the computers, video screens and projectors to transform our exhibition spaces into intimate storytelling pods where audiences can sit and learn about the lives of young people living in very different parts of the world - and how they relate to identity and place in an ever-evolving cultural and political world.
We have secured part funding through the Australia-China Council, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Chief Minister’s Department, Northern Territory Government.
However we need to raise $2000 for the remaining material costs to be able to present the exhibition in Darwin and Beijing. We're so close, your help might just get us over the line!
