I have worked in Information Technology for nearly all of the last 21 years of my career. Much of my prior experience was in systems administration and network management, making a career change to software development around 1999. I have founded 2 companies. The first was a successful software enterprise in the UK in 1991 called Virus Free PD, selling my interest to my business partner at the time so that I could return home to Australia. The second was a network management consultancy which I deliberately closed in 1997 in order to allow me to dedicate more time to both family and to further study. I have worked in many industries including Medical, Defence, IT&T, Energy, Finance, and Education, and I have learned that although each industry requires a certain unique sensitivity and perspective, that every technology that I have worked with has had a human element that is the primary motivator and reason behind all of the work that I do. As a result, years of customer and people-oriented experience has been a crucial part of my success, and subsequently I have developed a keen interest in the psychology behind what we do in technology, and how it applies to the interaction between human beings and the software that I create.
