For the residency at Koli National Park, I propose to complete a body of work based upon discoveries, observations and inspirations that arise from spending time immersed in a specific site, in this case, Koli and the surrounding region.
This is a continuation and deeper exploration of work undertaken in site mapping in various locations in Australia, over the past three years.

Through research, observation and immersion in all aspects of the site, both ephemeral and permanent works will be created. Integral to the site mapping, will be to research and create baskets and other forms utilising traditional Scandinavian basket making methods and locally sourced fibres.
A small exhibition of paintings and sculptures will complete the residency, with a series of postcards from works undertaken in the field.

Rewards for you
Through my work in Tallebudgera Valley, as a Teacher Aide at Ingleside State School, I am doing my best to raise the funds for this chance of a lifetime journey. I would dearly love some support to pay for my flights, train travel and a small part of my accommodation while in Finland.
Pozible has been recommended to me by my dear friend Su Brown, as a fine and failsafe means to encourage the community to support artists and crafts people, through a very secure and well -tested organisation. The guidelines are simple. For an allocated amount of time, I have the chance to raise funds for the proposed journey. If I am able to reach my target within the set time frame, I am able to utilise the funds as pledged. If the target is not met, none of the pledged monies can be accepted by me and will not be taken from your account. Please keep this in mind if you care to assist me with my project.

Conclusion
Living and working in Finland, will give me a chance to experience, a new culture and language, and be part of an entirely new and I expect equally vibrant community. There will surely be many similarities along with some differences - a truly exciting and valuable experience.
If you are able to donate to this project, I would be so very grateful, and if you would like to be keeper of one of the 200 baskets, they are each unique art pieces, and come in many shapes and sizes, as a reward for your support.
Other awards include original artwork in postcard packs; small oil paintings called Henki - peacekeepers, painted on long sections of wood; or large oil paintings on canvas or unframed works on paper. Please do not forget to add your postal address plus email address when making your pledge, especially if you would like to receive your thank you reward or the newsletter from Finland. Your kind support will be acknowledged on Facebook and with a personal email or postcard.

The wind thrusted weather
whips at a quiet
concrete clad history.
Sooner or later we will
uncover all the mysteries
of place.
But will we ever penetrate
the strange and delicate
workings of fate ?
Feet in clay, red ochre dust
and feather braids.
In making, we are made.

How The Funds Will Be Used
The funds will be used to pay a portion of the overall costs, being specifically for air travel from Brisbane to Helsinki and return, and to cover train fares and some accommodation costs whilst in Finland.
Living simply, and utilising organic, found, recycled and low environmentally impacting resources, I am trying to keep costs to a minimum.
The entire project costs are outlined in the budget as follows.

The Challenges
As an artist and conservationist, contributing voluntarily to the community over many years, and being one who is very familiar with seeking out funds for community projects, it is strangely, not easy to request funds for my own self-development.
In bringing together forty years of experience as an artist and craftsperson, this project offers the chance for me to consolidate research methods and investigation, as well as open the door to new perspectives and innovations. There will be valuable and enriching networking opportunities, possibilities for cross-disciplinary collaboration, as well as inspiration through exposure to Scandinavian Galleries and Museums.
Vital to the research, is the anticipated Interaction and collaboration with creative and resourceful community members. This will assist in inspiring, informing and developing the work, with the aim to contribute to this region’s ongoing artistic innovations in the future.
To this end, I am in the process of seeking avenues through which to contribute further to the ecology/art dialogue on my return.
The greatest challenge to the project would be, if I
were unable to raise the funds to take up this opportunity in Finland.
