WHO WE ARE

What is the The Gentle Void? The Gentle Void is our art gallery!

We open on June 15 at 100-102 Campbell Street in Hobart.

The Gentle Void Art Gallery is a creative space we've setup to fill a void that exists in Hobart. We've realized that Hobart needs a consistent establishment to support the local alternative arts and music scene, and also a touchdown point for alternative artists from Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane.

OUR GRAND OPENING SHOW ARTISTS

We are launching with a month-long group show featuring this super lineup of artists! Aaron Billings, Gemma Flack, Alex Hooves, Sarah McNeils, Carla McRae, Adrianna Mammino, Stef Roselli, Caitlin She, Clea Chiller, Marty Letain, Holly Leonardson, Carrie Toumsook, Lillian Cuda, Nick Nolan, Lizzi Morris, Katie Kitzen, Victoria Janina, Nicole Casella, Marian Machismo, Phoebe Paradise, Alex Just Spat, Melissa Grisancich, Devon Smith, Jo Pole, Kate Loader and many more. We will be stocking products from Ben Constantine, Sean Morris, Kyle Hughes-Odgers, Jordan Debney, Ashley Ronning and many more local artists. But we need your help to get it up and running!

WHO WE SUPPORT

Our gallery is here for all kinds of artists! Painters, illustrators, drawing people, designers, sculptors, street artists, graffers, performers, musicians. EVERYONE! It's a creative space for our local art community to run exhibitions, workshops, group shows, talks, performances, gigs, launches or just sell artwork on commission.

We are hiring our beautiful gallery space, running internal group shows, holding drawing clubs and art classes, putting on artist workshops, but also importantly we are stocking stuff like artist made prints, zines, comics, pins, stickers, patches, necklaces and other tiny things. We also really want to encourage and support emerging artists and artschool students with affordable ways to display their work, such as regular internal group shows and the front window gallery space.

SERVICES AND SUPPLIES

We have a regular Baby Void Club session every Friday after school so that children from 8 - 14 can get in on the creative action and be part of the art community. We are also keen to running a riso / screen printing service for making zines and posters, and selling old format 120 film and other hard to get art supplies.

RESIDENCIES & WORKSHOPS

After July we will be starting our Artist Residencies Project and getting national and international artists to come down for a week and make art in the space. We already have workshops with caligraphers and printmakers from interstate booked for the opening week. Once the gallery is established we would like to invite artists to hire out areas as studio space on our third floor, these spaces will be a nice, quiet alternative for illustrators and designers in the CBD.

LAUNCHES AND LISTENERS

On a side note we will be holding Gigs and E.P launches for local alternative musicians, and have a space for musicians to play to people who want to actually listen (and not just get drunk and play poker machines). Hobart is well overdue for space like this, and we think it's finally time for us to give it one! We'd love for you to come be a part of it!

In order to setup and secure the gallery we need to pay some establishment fees.

Rent : $33,800, Rent GST (10%) : $3380,

Outgoings : $6000, Outgoings GST (10%) : $600.

$21,890 - FUNDING GOAL

If we can reach $21,890 we can cover our establishment fees and outgoings for 6 MONTHS (%20 $1,094.5 which is Pozible's 5% cut of the crowdfunding = $22,945)

Eventually we are hoping by the end of the 2016 our gallery will be making enough money to turn itself over, but at the moment everyone will be volunteering their time to get this thing going, no one will be paid or making any profit as we start this project. Everyone involved is just super keen to see a creative arts and music space up and going in the centre of Hobart.
