Ecila is an 11 piece jazz and new music ensemble formed in 2010 by composer/arranger Alice Humphries to perform and record her music. The ensemble features some of the most creative young talent in Australian music and the compositions involve everything from experimental sound improvisation to beautiful interpretations of jazz standards and folk songs and everything in-between!
THE ALBUM
Ecila are very excited to be releasing their debut album in December. The album was recorded in July at Loop studios in Perth and will be mastered in Iceland by renowned producer and composer Valgeir Sigurðsson. Your donations will help with the cost of mastering, printing and packaging the album for release and you can donate as much or as little as you like. Depending on the amount you donate you can select from a number a rewards including copies of the album and tickets to the launch which will be happening on Wednesday the 19th of December at Loop Studios in West Perth.
ABOUT ALICE
Alice trained in jazz saxophone and composition at the WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) where she completed a BMus(Hons). Alice won the 2007 Bob Wylie Scholarship for the Best Graduation Recital at WAAPA and the 2010 Tura New Music Award for the best graduating composition student. Alice has also been a finalist in the James Morrison Scholarship for improvisation, a finalist in the 2010 APRA Professional Development Awards (Jazz) and a finalist in the 2011 National Big Band Composition Competition. Alice studied overseas with composers in the UK, Germany and Norway in 2011 and has been awarded new work and professional development grants from the Australia Council.
