Newcastle Youth Orchestra

The Newcastle Youth Orchestra program will inspire emerging young performers through live orchestral music.

The NYO's mission is to be recognised as a leading national youth orchestra that will establish a strong and vibrant critical mass of orchestral activity in Newcastle with emerging artists, quality music education programs, excellent concert programs and new audiences. We will motivate emerging young performers through a diverse and challenging repertoire of orchestral music and provide high-quality orchestral training in a stimulating, safe and rewarding environment.

We will work collaboratively with our local performing arts organisations to deliver vibrant and engaging performances that involve live orchestral music with visual art, installations, drama, dance and new media.

We have found a home of sorts in the new Newcastle Museum at Honeysuckle where rehearsals will take place on Saturday mornings during the school term. At the conclusion of each term the NYO will present a public concert in the Newcastle Civic Precinct.

We need to provide music stands, sheet music, venue hire, advertising, marketing and branding and concert production.

We estimate our first year's running costs to be around $180k but to gather the absolute basics we are looking for $20,000.

We are planning to reward our generous donators with concert tickets, concert subscriptions, private concerts, their logos displayed on our website and concert programs. Small donations will have their names on a sponsors page of the website and receive a letter of thanks containing hi-res coloured postcards of the concert season.
