Amir’s goal is to harness the power of community gardening to give the next generation an enlightened perspective on their relationship with the Earth and each other. We develop young leaders and give them the agency to inspire change in a community, and help to build a more socially just world. We are raising money to build composting units at each of our partner camps.

Composting uses the natural process of decomposition to turn organic waste, such as vegetable scraps or yard trimmings, into a useful soil amendment. Most commonly this organic waste ends up in a landfill, taking up space and removed from the natural cycle that returns its nutrients to the environment. With nearly one third of all waste in US landfills having been identified by the EPA as compostable, this has become a major issue in our country. With this funding, our Farmers can purchase the materials to build composting units at their respective camps. The compost will be a great soil amendment for the gardens, making them more sustainable and inexpensive to maintain for our partner camps. Equally important, by creating composting programs at our camps we can teach children to become stewards of their environment, planting the seeds of knowledge that will make these children grow into agents of progressive social change in their communities.
