Superblog – A Web Series

Superblog is an interactive web series created by Andy Green and written by Brendan Dousi which chronicles the story of ‘The Gadgeteer’ as he begins his journey as a RLSH, fighting social injustices in the world today.

We are students at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), in Brisbane, Australia and for our final year of film studies we have chosen to create this web series.

The crew of Superblog

This web series will use multiple avenues of storytelling to create a story that appears to be taking place in the real world. Our aim is to tell a believable story, told through these multiple avenues (web series, social media and live meetings) in order to evoke an emotional engagement from our audience. Real life heroes are rising in popularity in modern day culture and we hope to use people’s knowledge of their existence to craft something plausible and enjoyable.

Our story will primarily be told through a weekly web series, showing our hero The Gadgeteer as he crafts his costume and gadgets, learns how to be a hero in his community and encounters threats that he wasn't prepared for.

However, films cost money. We aim to raise AU$1,500 to cover the cost of a stunt coordinator and safety officer. Since we will be recreating dangerous acts onscreen, it is vital that we keep our actors and crew safe and comply with state safety regulations.

Whilst we are telling a fictional story, our Brisbane based hero contacts are working with us to ensure that the story we tell is accurate, both to the physical activities we do onscreen, and to the moral codes that all RLSH’s hold to. It is incredibly important to us that we don’t misrepresent what real life superheroes do, as we have the utmost respect for their goals.

We have already had an amazing number of people add The Gadgeteer on Facebook who have talked to him a number of times. But with YOUR help we can spread his reach even further. All you have to do spread the word about this project to all of your RLSH contacts! That way we can build a great community surrounding the Gadgeteer, thus making our cause that much more realistic!

Who are you?

We are a group of Brisbane based film students in our final year of study at Queensland University of Technology.

Why should I care?

Our hope is for this web series to go global and for it to introduce the concept of real life superheroes to a wider audience. Through this series we will show what RLSH really do and not the stereotypical Hollywood representation of it.

We also have various incentives for donating, including behind the scenes footage, artist sketches of your persona and more!

What will you use my money for?

All the funds raised from this campaign will go towards hiring stunt coordinators and safety officers on our shoot. Since we will be recreating dangerous acts onscreen, it is vital that we keep our actors and crew safe and comply with state safety regulations.

How can I see the web series?

We will be uploading each episode to the internet for all to view, free of charge! Check back to the Gadgeteer’s profile once a week for a new video. Maybe hit that share button while you’re at it too.

Will you actually be going on patrols?

Whilst the crime we stop onscreen will be scripted and rehearsed, we will still be actively going out into the community in full gear and promoting the RLSH’s message of taking a stand against indifference and injustice!

Why so secretive?

One of the main goals of Superblog is to create a realistic and believable story that the general public will buy into and engage in. This means we will be promoting The Gadgeteer as a real life super hero. In order to keep this sense of realism intact, it is imperative that this information does not reach the general public.

Our campaign supports Paypal for international backers, but unfortunately credit/debit cards will only be accepted from within Australia.
