Lionface is a social media platform designed for nonprofits. We'll be offering them a calendar, and a discussions forum, as well as a place to receive feedback, and a comprehensive system for networking with volunteers and other people in their immediate community. Our dream, when we're successful, is to give a large portion of our revenue to the nonprofits on our site. We believe in helping the world, and we believe established nonprofits are the best way to do that... by helping them, we can help everyone.
The features we're planned for nonprofits will also be available for businesses.
There will also be space for regular users, with a key focus on respecting their privacy. There will be no Ads (there will be alternative revenue sources). We hope our users will feel very comfortable and respected.
Our dream is to prove that doing the right thing can be a better business model than doing the profitable thing, which would be running Ads and selling user information, etc. We believe respect and honesty will make us more successful in the long run.
Right now, the project is about 85% developed. I've been trying to get it off the ground for two years, and now, with help from others, I'm almost there. We're hoping the site will be live and ready by early January, 2013.
We do need a little extra help paying for the initial development costs. We've already tapped out our friends and family, and we're worried that we wont be able to afford the last few weeks, which would be heart crushing after coming so far.
I originally got the idea because I was frustrated at the amount of money social networks were making and how little they were giving back when, by the nature of their business, they had a community set up around them that could benefit from their involvement.
It took me about a year to get the courage to start it, and after going through a few not-so-great developers, we've finally found a great team. I've learned a lot during the process, and I just hope I can get the site live, to see this project to its end.
I'm not trying to raise for nonprofits at this stage, I'm trying to raise money to develop a platform that someday, when it's successful, can help nonprofits, make users feel respected, and transform businesses' advertising approach into something more discussion and community oriented.
