What’s so important about Tropical Arts?

Tropical Arts finds pathways into theatre for everyone: children, students, experienced amateur actors, professionals, people with a disability, single parents, families, Indigenous performers, multi-cultural performers, men, women, people suffering Mental Illness, cabaret performers, disability support workers, musicians, big, small, old and young… it’s a diverse world.

The joy in our theatre making changes perspectives and even lives. With the focus on our collective creativity – we value people for their strengths. We don’t see lack. We help. We grow.

What’s this money for?

We’ve been funded to pay the professionals. We’ve fundraised money for the costumes and sets – and now, it’s this final piece to really value our cast and crew. Your donation will assist us to pay for:

· the DVD of this production and to get a trailer up on youtube, like last years’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Es5REo7XGM ;

· Rehearsal venue hire – Edge Hill Primary School has offered us an excellent discount on extensive use of their Environmental Centre.

· Purchase of little things like mozzie repellent or gaffer tape – to make sure no volunteer is out of pocket for sharing things which help us all.

Where are we up to?

We are on the home strait now for this year’s production. In these final weeks of rehearsal, we will bring you updates from the 80+ in the cast – working in the ensembles:

· Fairies

· Children’s Ensemble – the Scrinchies

· Tropical Surreal – MC with the mostest.

What are the challenges for this production?

With a very large cast it’s going to be tricky! We hope it doesn’t rain because we are developing “Tropical Surreal” a roving mass pre-show event before the play proper – Athens prepares for the wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta.

Because we love our performance venue, Tank 3, Tanks Arts Centre, we have planned ways to cope without “dressing rooms” and all of our costumes are designed to cope with the Tropical heat of Cairns in October.

And a little secret? - the full cast falls asleep on the Tank 3 floor as the play begins.
