After almost two years in the making, Ariella Pictures, in association with Silver Screen Pictures, is proud to present the Australian documentary The Road to Tumaini (‘Hope’ in Kiswahilli), which follows the journey of four Australian architecture graduates from Sydney University, who establish a local, not for profit organisation called Bricks and Cartwheels; their aim is to improve the living conditions of young women in third world countries through sound, sustainable design. After two years of careful planning and liaising with their Kenyan business partner TEMAK, the Bricks and Cartwheels team head into the heart of Western Kenya, a region still recovering from recent tribal warfare, to begin building a girl’s school in the remote village of Katolo. Working tirelessly with community members to assist them with the process, the slow development is initially frustrating for them, as they have so much to achieve in a short amount of time; but once the project gathers momentum, the support and involvement from the community becomes enthusiastic and widespread. Meanwhile, a growing distrust between Bricks and Cartwheels and their business partner TEMAK is brewing, the result of which threatens to destabilize their whole project.

Bricks and Cartwheels’ must now act with courage and determination, as they have to face the prospect of losing everything they have worked so hard to achieve.

Producer Justin Morrissey and Director Kimberley Duband, are seeking funding to put together a doco trailer, to take the project  to market. The funds raised will be used to pay for a very talented Australian editor who has come on board, and some further studio interviews.
