About Metro Arts

Metro Arts is the place in Brisbane to meet artists and see new work first.

A multi-arts centre in the CBD of Brisbane, Metro Arts is a laboratory; an incubator and a unique creative hub that facilitates artists to create and showcase contemporary art. Through its professional development programs, each year Metro Arts supports over 750 artists and plays host to approximately 160,000 visitors.

Well known for punching above its weight, over its 38 years Metro Arts’ has morphed and changed in response to artists’ needs. Provision of affordable space to create and show art is at the core of what we do and was the reason this organisation was founded. But today we do far more than provide space; our role extends to supporting artists to connect their work with audiences locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

We need your help to make space for artists
Our artistic community is calling for a new space appropriate for making and presenting new contemporary forms of performance. The existing 'basement' at Metro Arts has the potential to be transformed into this intimate space.  Like all of Metro Arts’ spaces it will be basic, accessible and suitable for artists creating their own work under their own steam.

We are employing multiple strategies to raise the necessary funds. This Pozible campaign is only one component of the campaign and through it, our aim is to turn Metro Arts’ $10,000 commitment to the project into $20,000. We’re putting down $10,000 and we are calling on you, together, to do the same.

This campaign is all about supporting our artists. They need a space and we want to make it happen. With your support, we can transform our existing basement space into a performance space to enable creativity and support the future of the arts in Brisbane and beyond.




What we need to make an intimate performance space
Your donation will go directly towards renovating our basement into a contemporary performance space and thus provide an additional venue for artists to creatively develop and perform new work.

Obviously what we do is dependent on how much money we raise. Our hope is that we will have enough money to:

· Soundproof the space

· Install a floor appropriate for movement

· Upgrade the entrances and fire door to ensure patron safety

· Install a lighting rig and three phase power

· Provide necessary supplies such as paint and hardware

· Purchase a pool of technical resources including lighting and sound equipment, desks and media projection equipment.

Whether you are an artist, love someone who is, or are an arts lover, we have some fantastic rewards (see the right hand panel) to thank you for your support.  Please do note that anyone who donates $25+ will receive a huge thank you directly from us, on Facebook and on our website and anyone who donates $100+, even if you actually choose a ‘limited’ reward over this value will also receive an acknowledgement in a unique installation in the new space itself.

At the end of the day, by investing in this campaign, you are investing in artists and the next generation of work. Your reward is a culturally vibrant Brisbane.
