The Voice of the Rain
The Voice of the Rain is a photography project to raise funds for an indigenous Fijian family. After spending 18 days with the Evisisi family near the town of Singatoka on Vita Levu, Fiji’s largest island, I’m producing a book of photographs that capture the family’s way of life.
My aim on pozible is to generate funds to cover the printing of the book. Any funds going beyond this will go straight to the larger goal of building the Evisisi family a home. More books will be sold at various book launches and online to achieve the final goal.
-------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE: We are now shipping books internationally on pledges over $100!
-------------------------------------------------------------

- cover size approx 25x28cm
- approximately 100 pages
- approximately 90 black and white film photographs and stories included
The cost of manufacturing the book is the most significant obstacle for the project. This is where you come in! You can pledge to this project, which works just like pre ordering the book and help make this project work!
Who is "we"?
I'm collaborating with a very talented graphic designer Selena Kearney as well as a bunch of other equally talented people to make sure we're putting together the best possible book and that we can make the Evisisi's a home!
How much money do we need to raise to build the Evisisi's home?
$12,000 Sanitary upgrade + Book
$19,000 The foundations for the house + Book
$28,000 The entire home completed + Book
Why help this family?
Doing something, anything, for someone in need is better than doing nothing at all. I met the Evisisi family by chance while travelling through Fiji. I was there working as a wedding photographer and took my mum with me as a Mother’s Day present (which definitely won me brownie points!) We ended up taking a tour of one of the caves on Viti Levu. Our driver Viliame was so friendly that I ended up chewing his ear off, asking tons of questions about his country and way of life. While on the tour I also met Eneri as well as Filimone and Sulu, [Eneri’s parents and who I ended up staying with]. The family were so open that I immediately knew I wanted to come back, even though I had no idea how this would happen.
After lots of communication with the tour guide, I asked if I could come back and stay with the Evisisis. They said that out of the hundreds of tourists who have visited the cave, no one has ever asked to stay with them, so they were very excited about having a guest (not to mention how excited/scared/hopeful/unsure I was!) Any fears I had about staying with this family, who I barely knew, were immediately allayed when I arrived – they are incredibly generous and welcoming.

The Evisisi family live on their farm with no electricity, no sewage system and no running water. Their only regular connection to the outside world is a radio; their house, built of bamboo, has no doors or windows. In short, their living conditions are diametrically opposed to the visions of white sandy beaches, palm trees and idyllic, picture perfect conditions that are usually associated with Fiji.
