Are You Awake?
THE PROJECT
"Are You Awake?" is a film about Julia. A women who works nights at a busy hospital and then goes home to find her partner, James, asleep on their bed. To cope with the emotional strain of her job and the lack of time spent with James, Julia begins to disconnect from this world. We see her going through the motions of life, never really being able to express herself. That is until she meets Ben online.
Through her talks online, Julia is able to emote in the way she seems unable to in life. Upon Ben she unpacks her worries and stress, and he is always there to listen. She gets to such a point of dependence upon him that the pair being masturbating together during their chats. Although this existence is perfect for Julia, it starts becoming evident that Ben wants more. Will she keep going deeper down the rabbit hole with Ben, or realize that everything that comforts her online can be found right next to her with James.
The film will cover how intimacy manifests itself in the modern age, and how the physical love between two people should never be replaced by a viral one.
THE FILMMAKER
Born in Houston, Texas, I was moved to England at the impressionable age of 8. It was during my time there that I developed a love of cinema. It has since become my passion, and hopefully one day I'll be lucky enough to call it my Job.
This is my Graduating film from the prestigious VCA in Melbourne. I moved down to Australia three years ago to pursue my love of filmmaking (as well as the love of my partner Caitie), and I have never looked back. I have learned so much over the last few years about not only movies, but also about myself.
YOUR ROLE
But now is the time I need help!! The shooting date is fast approaching and I'm needing extra funds to make this film perfectly. If you have ever worked on, or funded, or heard about others making short films, you probably know that usually once they are made they live on the director's shelf as a nice little home movie. NOT THIS FILM! Upon completion I'll be sending it out to every festival I can, domestically and internationally (so if you give enough, your name could be projected on the silver screen all over the world!).
So please, any amount you can give would be immensely appreciated.
A special thanks credit in the film
A special thanks credit, as well as a DVD copy of the completed film
All of the above, plus Tickets to the premire screening at ACMI in Melbourne's famous Fed Square AND a written letter of gratitude from the writer/director
