Cambodia and the West: A Writing Collaborative
In September 2010, my novel "A Clash of Innocents," was published. This, my second novel, grew out of a charity trip I made to Cambodia in 2006 where we worked in a children's shelter and built houses in one of the most impoverished communities. People often go away, become inspired, and then create something with that inspiration. I am now planning to bring the fruit of that inspiration back to the people who inspired it and use it to enhance the education of some of Cambodia's poorest children.
I have teamed up with the well-established children's shelter in Siem Reap called Anjali House (http://www.anjali-house.com). Anjali House supports the education of the poor and helps keep children learning and off the streets. They already have a successful on-going program which teaches children the art of photojournalism. They have now asked me to come to Siem Reap to lead a series of workshops in creative writing and initiate an on-going creative writing program for them. Teaching children to express themselves through the written word is an important key to building self-esteem. These children already speak English. Being able to write it fluently as well will be an important skill for their futures.
While there, I will also be holding a series of book signing events with proceeds going to the charity.
I am seeking funding to help offset the cost of my travel expenses.
