A one night stand goes pear shaped when
young woman, Anna, accepts a lift home from her new suitor, Paul, only to be
embroiled in her very own brush with the law.
As it becomes apparent that both Anna and
Paul lied to each other the night before about details of their lives, the big
questions are asked: Why did Anna
lie about being a hand model? Where is her dress? Is it ever socially
acceptable to get a kebab on the way home?
'One Night Stand' is the third short film from writer/director 'Nicky Arnall'. Her second, 'Two Ships', was nominated for a 2011 AWGIE Award and has screened at film festivals including St Kilda and Dungog. First time producer, Paula Salini, was pretty damn excited about taking this baby on.
The project quickly became wilder than our imaginations could have hoped for. The amazing DOP, Joanne Donahoe-Beckwith and Art Director, Ben Bangay quickly jumped on board - before Casting Director, Andrew Thompson, delivered a cast we could only have dreamed of -
Melissa Bergland (Anna) Chris Ryan (Paul Sutton) Andrew S Gilbert
(Detective Dalton)
At the eleventh hour Canon lent us the then-unlaunched in Australia, Canon C500 EOS Cinema Camera to play with, along with Canon Cinema Prime Lenses, pushing our crazy film to another visual level. The film is currently in post production, with Director, Nicky Arnall, Editor, Patrick McCabe and Assistant Editor, Andrew Cuce doing their thing; and it's looking pretty damn great so far...
Everyone worked for free, even the wonderful leading actress, Melissa Bergland doubled as Make-up! But some things in life don't come for nothing, and our credit cards are feeling the weight of Anna's and Paul's hangovers.
Our absolutely incredible professional crew embraced this project with such enthusiasm for Nicky's left-of-field script, giving up their time and skills to make this the most satisfying One Night Stand we could have hoped for, or have ever experienced in the past...
Here's a little taste of all the hard work over the production weekend -
Did someone say regret?
DOP Jo Donahoe-Beckwith and her new friend, C500.
The beautiful Melissa Bergland at the end of Day 1.
The brilliant Andrew S Gilbert had a ball making the entire cast and crew laugh just before every take then snapping straight into character.
Chris Ryan sitting mighty pretty in 'The Beast'.
What happens when you leave actors in a car for too long...
Almost there on Day 1.
Day 2, relaxing in bed...
Jo and Jackson and their Canon buddy.
Good morning!
