Young Vagabond is a new magazine for young women, offering an alternative to other print publications, which often have an unhealthy focus on image and sexuality.

Our aim:

Through Young Vagabond, we aim to give young women a voice, and a magazine that they want to read. A magazine that doesn’t try and force them to look, feel or act the same as every other girl, doesn’t make them feel like they aren’t good enough, and that doesn’t underestimate what they are capable of!

Young Vagabond will be created with the potential of all women in mind. However we see no better place to direct this message of empowerment than at young women. They have the freedom to choose who they will become, and Young Vagabond will set out to show these young women that their individuality, their distinct interests and capabilities, are worth developing and having pride in.

Because young women have broad and varied interests, Young Vagabond will cover a broad range of topics. We will feature articles relevant to being a teenager, and while this can include topics such as beauty, fashion, sex and relationships - it also very much encompasses articles that are relevant to the world at large.

YV pledges to:

+ Encourage our readers to think critically about everything presented to them by the media, including the content of Young Vagabond.

+ Accurately represent real women and girls, to champion their achievements in all the ways we know how, and to encourage our readers to do the same.

+ Create an ethos of awareness, discovery and acceptance of the world and of the self.

+ Encourage our readers to have adventures, to embrace their freedom, to live passionately and to appreciate their capabilities.

+ Only ever publish content and advertising that fits with the Young Vagabond ethos.

The plan:

This magazine will be unlike anything Australia has had before. We hope to publish quarterly or bi-monthly publications initially, and hope to graduate to monthly issues once it becomes financially plausible for us to do so.

We hope to be able to retail Young Vagabond at a reasonable price once it hits stores, and would ideally love to have it sell for less than $5 per issue.

We want youngwomen to learn a little bit about everything the world has to offer, because that is the best way to open them to their own potential to achieve!

If the response we’ve received from those around us is anything to go by, Young Vagabond is needed. Empowering and educating young women – encouraging them to strive for great things – these are the ways we have of balancing the world. Of making new leaders.

The money:

If we can reach our target, most of the money will go towards printing 2500 copies of the first issue of Young Vagabond. As a magazine with a social conscience, YV magazine will be beautifully printed on environmentally sustainable paper, with matt finish pages. Those 2500 copies will be used as the rewards for your pledges and this will initially be the only way of ensuring you get yourself a copy of the first issue of Young Vagabond magazine.

Any copies that we have left will be used as giveaways through our website, and as the prototypes that will hopefully assist us with gaining further funding to print future issues.

The money from our target will also be put towards our launch event! This awesome night will take place in early 2013 at a yet to be disclosed venue in Melbourne. This will be a chance for us to celebrate with our supporters and to introduce Young Vagabond into a forum of industry representatives. It will also be a chance for us to showcase the first edition and seek further ongoing support. Tickets to the launch event can be purchased individually or in pairs, so be sure to purchase a ticket when you pledge!

Finally, the remainder of the funds you help us raise, will pay for the postage of the magazine to you, anywhere in Australia! As well as the necessary ISSN number, barcodes and relevant registration we will need to allow us to print the first issue of YV.

We’ve given ourselves 2 months to flog this idea for all it is worth in an effort to raise the funds. We understand that the inopportune timing of Christmas means we might have to work extra hard to get there. But we really believe we can do it, because we feel that Young Vagabond holds the potential of every girl in the world between her pages.
