OUR PROJECT

New Melbourne online florist and gift hamper business Honeybee and Blossom will be creating an exhibit of fresh flowers and fruits with premium quality Australian honey tastings at the 2013 Sustainable Living Festival's Green Market and we would love for you to join us in tasting delicious honeys and celebrating these extraordinary creatures.

Our exhibit will be a bountiful display of fresh flowers, fresh fruit, photos of honeybees and delicious premium Australian honeys for all to enjoy, see, smell, touch and taste. Our goal is to raise awareness in the Melbourne community about this issue and to help people learn what they can do to help the honeybees in their plight. Please see below for more information about the importance of honeybees.

We will also have our new range of eco-friendly gift hampers for sale at the exhibit, as well as jars of honey, beeswax candles, beeswax body products, fresh flowers and bee friendly flower seeds.
Honeybee and Blossom's online store to be launched in January 2013 offers eco-friendly gift hampers which feature the following products:

Jars of premium quality Australian honey

Beeswax candles

Fresh flowers

Organic wine and chocolate

Honey beer, mead and liquer

Body products containing beeswax and honey

Bee friendly flower seeds

Our gift hampers are packaged in jute bags with 100% post consumer recycled shredded paper, biodegradable ribbon and eco friendly swing tags printed on recycled paper with vegetable inks.

Our vision is to raise awareness of the global honeybee issues which threaten the sustainability of our food supply and to educate people about the essential relationship between honeybees, flowers and food.

REWARDS

Please note that current quarantine restrictions do not allow for any honey to be sent to Western Australia. For any rewards for international or Western Australian supporters, we will substitute honey for either a beeswax candle of the same size or a beeswax body product of equal value.

THE IMPORTANCE OF HONEYBEES

The honeybee can exist without us but we cannot exist without the honeybee and her sacred service to our agriculture and health.

"Honey and pollen, which serve as the sole source of nourishment for these creatures, are some of the most delicate, rarefied and miraculous substances in all of nature"

- Gunther Hauk, p.46 in his book 'Toward Saving the Honeybee', published by The Biodynamic Farming and Gardening Association Inc.

Honeybees are responsible for the pollination of one out of every three mouthfuls of food we eat. Some argue that up to 65-70% of our food supply is pollinated by honeybees.

"They are also responsible for pollinating 40-70% of our diet - including some of the tastiest foods we eat such as apples, peaches, strawberries, nuts, avocados, broccoli, and cucumbers - as well as medicinal plants such as Echinacea, Angelica, Rosemary, & Sage."

- Spikenard Honeybee Sanctuary, Virginia, USA. Sourced from http://www.spikenardfarm.org/beeimportance.html

Honeybees are essential for human life. They are disappearing at an alarming rate across the world due to a combination of Colony Collapse Disorder, Varroa Destructor mites, pesticides and chemicals on GMO crops, Israeli Acute Paralysis Virus, monoculture agribusiness, hive beetles and general poor immune health caused by decades of industrialized commercial beekeeping practices.

Without these amazing creatures to pollinate our food crops, we would not have most fruit and vegetables to eat.

"Actually, every human being should show the greatest interest in beekeeping because, much more than you can imagine, our lives depend upon it." - Rudolf Steiner
