KITSCH IN SYNCH

A Deranged Domestic Drag Drama!

Welcome to the zany, madcap world of a paranoid, post-modern perfectionist housewife – don’t forget to wipe your shoes!

Desperate Housewives meets The Stepford Wives in Kitsch In Synch, which comically explores the many multi-coloured moods of the everyday housewife (Drag Performer Polly Filla, aka Colin McLean) in her endless repetitive quest for domestic perfection… Kitsch In Synch is homage/parody of the Kitchen Sink Drama, a commentary on gender-based roles in society and a satirical look at mid 20th century women’s movies.

The performance is completely compiled from newsreels, Radio/TV commercials, Rare/Odd songs, Spoken word recordings and Sound effects, and is lip-synched entirely by the sole performer. Performers featured in audio excerpts include Shirley Bassey, Liza Minnelli, Joyce Grenfell, Kay Thompson and many more - and evokes the sound of a bygone era.

After a sold out season at the 2012 NZ Fringe Festival, Pollyfilla Productions is excited to present the Australian premiere of Kitsch In Synch at Chapel Off Chapel for Midsumma 2013!

As fabulous as the show will be, we are asking for your help to get it off the ground!!!

After the success of Kitsch In Synch at the NZ Fringe Festival, Colin thought it was a fitting piece to have its Australian premier at the Melbourne Midsumma Festival. The black box Loft at Chapel off Chapel, also where he held a successful season of 'Pollywood' in 2008, is a perfect match for this characters state of mind.

A small set of tables and chairs sets the scene for this high paced, non-stop, one "woman" show. Polly soon proves to the audience that this isn't just 'another drag show' and you soon forget you're watching 'a man in a dress' as you come along on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, leaving you asking questions and wanting to know more of her story in this exciting post modern theatre piece.

'…Relentless energy puts Pollyfilla far above the garden variety lip synchers… Highly Recommended!’ - GayNZ.com

WHERE WE'RE AT

MARKETING

*Kitsch In Synch is registered as part of the 2013 Melbourne Midsumma Festival. While this gives us a place in the official guide, on their website, and a small amount of coverage in the Star Observer, it does not include marketing or any other advertising.

*Our current marketing plan involves lots of online presence, social media advertising campaign, contact with all local print media, various radio stations and TV programs for article and interview opportunities. Tickets giveaway contests on JOY FM, Star Observer and on Facebook.

*A quarter page advert in the Star Observer, a publication that reached 95% of the gay community and has over 49,000 readers weekly, in the 4 weeks leading up to the production.

*Offering 2-4-1 pre-sale tickets on site LastTix, allowing us to broaden our audience reach and ideally sell a majority of the tickets in the early week so we are able to re-asses our budget.

*Chapel off Chapel do a 'what’s on' flyer drop in December for January shows. This goes to 5,000 people via email and a further 10,000 people via other drops in various locations, venues. This will contain info on their flyer PLUS 2000 Kitsch In Synch postcards.

*Printed posters and cards distributed by the company to cafes, shops, venues etc around the venue

BUDGET & FUTURE

A budget of approx $5000 is needed for this production which includes venue hire and venue technician, marketing budget and consumable props.

The bulk of the budget is the venue hire.

At the end of this run, we hope to have successfully premiered this production and have a budget to tour locations throughout Victoria, NZ and Australia, with the bigger goal of taking Kitsch In Synch to the Edinburgh Arts Festival. Colin and Mia are aiming to break the perception of this just being another 'drag show with Polly'. It's a new way to experience a drag performance and to witness a performer in an acting role that will make you seriously wonder if you're watching a man in drag or a housewife in turmoil.

As it is a suitcase show, it is easily toured using tables and chairs from the venue and can be mounted in black box studio theatres with varying audience size.
