What is Platform Shorts?

Platform Shorts is a 'pick and mix' kind of show. It is a gourmet tasting platter of yummy things. It is a series of short contemporary dance works from not just one choreographer, but more like seven or eight.

Platform Shorts is a performance space designed to create opportunities for emerging and small scale artists and groups to have a platform to present their up and coming works.

When is it happening?

Platform Shorts is happening in the Adelaide Fringe. Find it in the Fringe guide and book tickets here.

The two shows will be on;
When: Friday the 8th and Saturday the 9th of March
Time: 7:30pm
Where: Kings Park Community Church, 23 Valmai Ave, Kings Park, SA

Why is it happening?

The 'Why' question is really important to CDFA. CDFA is a not-for-profit organisation and since 1978 CDFA has worked to build networks, give support and advocate for dancers, artists, dabblers in art and creative movers, who we believe have an impact across Australia and the world in innovative and salubrious ways, as they create, make and perform. At the moment, CDFA is focusing on creating opportunities for emerging artists and smaller productions to share their works in the Internationally renowned festival, the Adelaide Fringe, through the Platform Shorts events.

The team of volunteers are working to provide the following range of opportunities;
Professional networking and exposure for the performers
To support emerging photographers to beautifully document the works
Majority of financial backing for all production and technical costs
Administration and event management
Free rehearsal space
Professional feedback on works
Friendship and fun
An opportunity for dancers to dance with an established choreographer

What is its history?

Platform Shorts this year is at the Adelaide Fringe which is the 4th in a series of Platform Shorts that have been organised across Australia. In January 2012, two Platform Shorts were held in Sydney at the Annandale Creative Arts Centre and in Brisbane at the Old Museum. In September 2012, Platform Shorts was held again in Sydney and won the Sydney Fringe Dance Award.

How can you help?

Every time CDFA runs a Platform Shorts it aims to cover costs and make a small profit that goes towards the next Platform Shorts. As we aim to improve each Platform Shorts and create a more professional performance experience, we require more funds to achieve our goals. We would love for you to help us fundraise and make opportunities for the dancers of Australia.
