A battle remembered through the ages.
A turning point in English history.
A victory of epic proportion.
The Battle of Hastings.

1066

One of the world’s most famous battles, The Battle of Hastings secured the throne for William 'the Lucky' of Normandy. Almost 70 meters in length, the Bayeux Tapestry is a hand embroidered master piece that captures, in amazing hand crafted detail, King Harold’s defeat and the victory that led William to be King.

1066 is an epic new work that will weave live action, projection, and movement to take us on a journey with Harold and William as they fight for the throne of England. We at Small Crown Productions would love to have you join us on the journey, to mount 1066 for the Anywhere Theatre Festival in Brisbane Australia from the 8th - 18th of May.

Help bring the Bayeux Tapestry to life
Imagine being one of the many people who worked on this incredible piece of history over 900 years ago. Did they imagine it would survive as long as it has, to be loved, ogled and admired by generation after generation all over the world? Now imagine walking into a space, and seeing a set totally covered in fabric, with colours shapes and imagery inspired by the tapestry. Imagine seeing the events of the tapestry brought to life. Imagine being one of the people who gave that experience to others.

What we need to bring 1066 to life
Our Pozible campaign is only one avenue we are using to raise funds for this production and the funding target is a small part of the cost to produce this show. We have already secured in kind support from our venue, the Queensland Museum, and Officeworks at Milton. Your donation will go directly towards some of the many other expenses incurred in creating a piece of theatre, expenses such as:
- Image rights for use of photos of the Tapestry
- Lighting and sound equipment suitable for the non-traditional space
- Materials for set and costumes
- Educational foyer project designed to inform visitors about the tapestry, the story contained within it and how we turned that into a theatre show.
- Mobile onsite storage. As we are performing in a non-traditional space a certain amount of equipment will need to be bumped in and out of the space after each performance. Mobile storage boxes will make this easier and safer for the venue and the equipment.

Your Investment
Whether you are a lover of theatre, lover of history, lover of the textile arts or just love a good story, we have a range of great rewards to say thanks for contributing. All the rewards are transferable if you would like to secure them for someone else, and can be easily handled by sending an email to [email protected]
During our last campaign we had some people interested in donating, but not wishing to do so online. If you are one of these people, please email [email protected] and we will work with you on a solution.

Not in Brisbane?
Wishing to donate, but you don’t live in Brisbane? What happens with your reward tickets?
Small Crown Productions is happy to gift the tickets, on your behalf, to a local support network, such as The Salvation Army or Link Up - in times of need an evening of entertainment would be a rare but welcome night out. Your reward would be a copy of our archival footage of 1066 and a collection of the production stills, mailed to you no matter where you are in the world.
