We can't wait to begin development of our very first Starlight app.
App Aid has been a busy, wild ride and we know the positive impact that an app like this will bring to Starlight families.

Starlight Children’s Foundation wants to build a smartphone app, called Happy Space that will match children with serious illness, to tickets, events and experiences donated by Starlight’s generous supporters.
Starlight together with Leafcutter Creative Digital are excited and driven by this idea. We have received seed funding through Vodafone Foundation’s App Aid to build the app prototype. But now we need to raise $15,000 to bring the app to market and make it a reality.
Vodafone Foundation will match every dollar pledged (up to $10,000 per charity) on Pozible, between 9am EDST 14 November to 5pm EDST 5 December 2013. Plus, the charity app with the highest number of individual backers at 5pm EDST 5 December 2013 will receive an additional $10,000 donation from Vodafone Foundation and will be deemed the winner of App Aid 2013.

Unfortunately, thousands of these children and young people are then faced with a diagnosis that can change their life, and the lives of their family, forever.

How The Funds Will Be Used
The funds pledged will be used to take the 'Happy Space' app from prototype to reality, and then into the hands of our families and supporters.
Starlight Children’s Foundation’s ‘ app will help connect donated tickets and experiences with families of seriously-ill and hospitalised children and young people.
Dealing with ongoing treatment for a child with a long term illness can be expensive, so a chance to go to a footy game or a One Direction concert isn’t always possible. It’s these kinds of experiences that allow families to have some fun together outside of the hospital.
The Starlight families will be asked to submit a story and drawing of what they love to do; playing soccer, or watching ballet or even just roaring like a lion, this then becomes a ‘star’ in the Happy Space.
The general public can then view these stories, and be inspired to help. Maybe that person has tickets to soccer match they can no longer make, or wants to give tickets to the zoo. The best thing about this app is that you can give to a child knowing that it will create a lasting, positive experience.

The Challenges
As with any software development, the devil in the detail is very challenging. The back end development of transferring donated tickets to families seamlessly as well as creating rules to help in the alignment of tickets to suitable families is also a challenge.
Working with our great digital company, Leafcutter on the steps, processes and requirements will make these challenges that much easier.
There are three different levels of functionality that is involved with our app. We are aiming to start with the basic functionality (and hopefully raise enough money) to build the second and third levels of functionality. Our prototype shown on Pozible explores the third level of our functionally however this is the most expensive. Again we are aiming to raise enough money to build the first level of functionality!
