My Debut Album Part 1: NoWhere
You can help make this happen...
Hello! My name is Tim (stage name: Timothy Coghill), and I am a composer / producer / drummer / general maker of arty kinda stuff. I would say that the music I create tends to gravitate towards being cinematic, atmospheric, and emotive, fitting somewhere into the Soundtrack / Neo Classical / Post Minimalism / Post Rock kind of genre (whatever that is!). Just think Sigur Ros meets Hans Zimmer in the middle of the Australian wilderness where they decide to form a Phillip Glass cover band, but can't remember any of his material, so instead decide to write a tribute album in a remote log cabin where they happen across.....Justin Vernon from Bon Iver??!! Anyway, maybe listen to my music in the 'Some Of My Other Work' section and you'll get to form your own opinion.
So. I am in the final stages of writing material towards my debut album. I am going to release it in two halves, kind of like two EPs that make up the greater whole. The first half will be called 'NoWhere', and I am aiming to release it around late March / early April 2014.
The album will be based around the last 5 years of my life, so I guess you could call it a concept album. However, I am collaborating closely with poet Chelsea Merry, and novelist Amy Stephenson to make it a lot more than just a loose concept set to music; but an album that brings you, the audience, into my 'world'. Imagine it being like hearing a story unfolding through music; like listening to a movie.
And this is where YOU come in.
The reality is that yes, I am seeking your help to fund 'NoWhere', as I literally can't make this album happen without your financial backing. But what excites me about relying on your support is the fact that you can now play a direct role in the making of 'NoWhere'. I have always wanted my music to be something that brings people together; something that everyone can share in, and so I see this as my biggest opportunity yet to not only make an album that has the potential to effect people's lives in a very real way, but to be making it in partnership with people I call my friends and supporters. To have this idea fully realised, I have designed the rewards for pledging money towards my album as a way of bringing you each along for the ride in the creation of 'NoWhere'. (Look right for the low-down on the rewards).
Anyway, this is my grand plan, and I really REALLY hope that you are able to help make this dream a reality, because at the end of the day, it definitely will have been a team effort. Seriously.
How to pledge
2) Login with Facebook or email, choose your reward, add a little extra for shipping if you’re not in Australia, and enter your payment details.
3) If / when my target amount of $10,000 is reached, your payment will be processed and you will be asked for postal details (if you purchased a physical copy of 'NoWhere').
4) Please also consider telling your friends about your involvement in this project by simply sharing the project link:

Thanks for reading this far! Please know that I am incredibly grateful to have your help in making 'NoWhere' a reality!

How The Funds Will Be Used
Mixing $3000
Mastering $700
Producer fee $800
CD duplication $800
Various studios hire fees $500
Musician session fees $1,750
String orchestra recording session (that's right, I said ORCHESTRA!) $3000
Story creation fee $400
Add these figures together with Pozible's modest fee for being the wonderful host of this endeavour, and we are already over the $11,000 mark. OUCH. And that isn't including any other costs that may (and probably will) arise. OUCH. And yes, this is only for 'NoWhere'; the first half of the album. OUCH. Did I mention that albums cost lots of money? OUCH OUCH. I will obviously be putting my own (meagre) funds into this project as well, so the magic figure that I reckon we need to raise is around the $10,000 mark.
TEN THOUSAND AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS. And anything above that mark will enable me to do other cool things that I could only wish to do, like collaborate with some happening artists to form a visual aspect of the album, or be able to take my whole band on tour!
The Challenges
In terms of the timeline, my aim of trying to get everything at least recorded by the start of march is probably the biggest challenge. I still have quite a few pieces of music that I haven't written yet, but that I believe need to be on this recording, so having that deadline to meet will be tricky, but not unattainable.
