It's time to make my most exciting collaborative project yet...
a debut studio album by 'Joel McKerrow & the Mysterious Few'.



Hey all, Joel here.
So as many of you know I have been a spoken word performer for coming on five years now. It has been an amazing journey in which I have met and shared story and poetry with SO many of you peoples who are reading this. Yet I feel like it is only now that I am really coming into my own as a poet and as an artist. I am finding what I really want to bring to this world through my poetry...and here it is...

Over the last year I've been collaborating and touring Australia and NZ with some really stunning musicians and it appears these collaborative ventures have evolved into a ground-breaking fusion of art-forms. We are not sure what to call what we do, 'acoustic driven-intimate-Folk-Rock-Poetry' could be an appropriate description. A mash up of Passenger, Sigur Ros and Daughter with spoken word. Whatever it is, I have had SO many people responding with incredible positivity toward it. Wherever 'Joel McKerrow & the Mysterious Few' have performed we have been overwhelmed with the response and so really feel like it is time to take it to the next level. There are few people in the world doing what we are doing and it does feel like we are joining in a pioneering field of such a collaborative genre. I am over the moon excited about the potential of this and would really love for you to be involved too.

This whole project is about bringing together a MASSIVE new collaborative 'Folk-Rock Poetry' album with lots of different musicians, produced by the fabulous Joshua Fuhrmeister, with my amazing singer Richelle Boer as the Creative director, to stand as a ground-breaking movement forward in the music-poetry world. 

For those of you who know me you certainly know I do not do this creative work for the money or the glory. I do this because I honestly believe it is what I was made to do and that words can and do make a change in people. I am passionate about equality and justice, about challenging the way we see the world, about bringing down the walls that stand between people, I am passionate about people coming to know who they truly are, poetry is my vessel to do this, that is what lies at the core of all my projects.

Of course to create such a huge collaborative work requires a whole lot of support, a whole lot of willing people and a whole lot of $$. Yes, I am indeed asking you to help me fund this project. It is a much grander scope than anything I have done before and I do believe it has GREAT potential to bring the force that is poetry to a wide, wide audience. The more successful this Pozible campaign is the more that we can do to bring in musicians and push the barriers of this art form, really fleshing out what the poetry/music fusion thing can be.

Obviously I do not know the exact costs but a VERY rough guesstimate looks like this...

Recording engineer fees...(recording, production, mixing and mastering)- $4000
Printing and pressing CD's- $1500.
Musicians session fees- $1000
Graphic Design- $500

I would really LOVE all of you to be involved in this exciting project in some way, so do let me know if you have expertise that you could bring into this and please do support this venture so I can get this album happening.

There is a risk with anything to do with poetry that the public has a pre-concieved negative idea of what poetry is and so does not give it the time of day. That's why so many poets self publish and self produce. As with all self produced albums creating the album is the fun bit, but only the beginning. The work really sets in when we hit the road, getting the album out there.  This is the big challenge, but one I've taken on before with my two previous self funded albums.
