HAMMERS is more than
a rock'n'roll band, comprising of four mates from the northern rivers, it's an
experience infused with all that is good in modern music. Taking influences
from a diverse range of styles; stoner rock, metal, blues, and blended with the
anecdotal lyrical style of country then spat in your face with the attitude of
punk, HAMMERS aren't reinventing the wheel, they're just keeping it rockin' and
rollin'. The concept is easy. Why try and fit into a style? Everyone digs a
good ol' AC/DC anthem like 'If You Want Blood (You Got It)', but what if you
took to it with the hard thrashing riffage of ‘Cowboys from Hell’? What if
Johnny Cash told you a tale over the pulsing groove of 'Green Machine' from the
almighty stoner kings Kyuss? Throw in a live show with more explosive movement
and energy than a troupe of one legged river dancers and you've got an idea of
what partying with HAMMERS is all about.
After securing a monster lineup with Fish (Vox), Tangles (Bass), Meaty (Drums)
and Wardy (Guitars), and performing around Lismore, Byron Bay and the Gold
Coast with domestic and international acts including HELM, ROME, BRANT BJORK,
GAY PARIS, ENGINE, KING PARROT, WIDOW THE SEA and THE NERVE; HAMMERS has been hitting the studio since July, working on our 8 track album, HELLIONS!

MAILING LISTUpdate %231: Meat The Meet, Hammers Skinsmasher
It's a little known fact that our very own VB smashin', vinyl addict drum thumper started his musical career 10 fingers deep in the ebony and ivory. Meaty began hittin' the skins at the age of 13, ignorant to the path he was setting out on that would culminate in his introduction into the greatest rock band this side of south west rocks, Hammers.
As a young bloke he fed his auditory gullet with a steady diet of AC/DC, Slayer, Motörhead and old jazz records, hoping to one day replicate the lessons learned from these childhood heroes in his own originals band. It took nearly 10 years of waiting before the opportunity arose to join Hammers, when we proposed live at Meaty's first show with the band, after 6 weeks of painstaking rehearsal, Meaty accepted by smashing into our final jam of the night, “Speak of the Devil”. Over a year later, Meaty has brought his own flavour to the existing jams, pulling influence from stoner rock, doom and thrash metal, as well as providing a unique contribution to the composition of new songs that will see his independent style shine through well beyond the release of “Hellions”.
Meaty brings to the table an extremely enthusiastic, passionate and invaluable involvement in band promotion, networking, negotiation and management; Always working to expand Hammers presence beyond the Northern Rivers.
The greatest memory of Meaty's residency so far would be our supporting role at a fund-raiser for our mates in “The Black Lullaby”; where an 11'o'clock kick-off on the breakfast beers and all day feasting on complimentary tap beer with Wardy resulted in a less than tasteful performance, complete with hay-bale stage dives, “ground solos” and synchronised fuck-up of any shred of set redemption. Though lacking in technical precision and at times, full consciousness, the crowd was thoroughly rocked and entertained.
