Pop - Short Film
"POP" follows the misadventures of Bruno, a clown who has lost his mojo and passion for entertaining. After a lack luster show at a children’s birthday party, Bruno, feeling ever more burdened by his failing career loses sight of the fun that encapsulates his work. A hospital visit to Emergency seems to prove his mundane life as going from bad to worse. However, a serendipitous new light is shone on his profession unexpectedly, revealing just how much joy performance brings to the world.

Who's Behind Pop?
Karen, originally from Germany and an RMIT graduate (2005) has worked on many productions internationally and in Australia including features, short films, documentaries and music videos. After taking a few years out to build her family Karen discovered she was inspired to not be scared of challenges such as working with children, rabbits or clowns on set. She was recently awarded 1st prize in the SBS competition “Join In” for her work with a bunch of very happy pre-school aged children. She has also been working on a short documentary series with cinematographer Timothy Arch, which is due to be released early 2015.

CAST
BRUNO - SIMON CONLON

Simon has worked as an actor and performer for over a decade since graduating from the RSAMD in Scotland. As an experienced theatre performer, Simon gravitates toward the collaborative storytelling that working with new writing and devising can lend itself to. Working under the guidance of Magdalena Shamberger, Simon has found clowning as his preferred method of performance, and is constantly plumbing new depths to his own idiocy. Simon is also part of the “No Job Too Big” clown troupe in Melbourne.
DOCTOR MOLLY - BRIAR SEYB-HAYDEN

Briar graduated from theatre school and, being captivated by the magic of the circus, went on to study circus at Circo Arts, New Zealand's circus school. Since then she has performed and taught circus and clown all over the world. She has worked with Circus OZ, Circus Aotearoa and The Westside Circus to name a few. Briar is a founding director of Clowns Without Borders Australia, a humanitarian arts organisation dedicated to improving the psychosocial wellbeing of children and communities in need across the world. Briar also spends her time working for the Starlight Children’s Foundation at the Royal Children’s Hospital of Melbourne.
How The Funds Will Be Used
Filming is set to take place in January 2015 (yes, indeed - just weeks away!) and will take 4 days. In between now and then we need to raise important funds to pay for all those bits and pieces that just absolutely require dollars. Added to this are the multiple locations we will be shooting at including:
- a backyard on the Mornington Peninsula
- an apartment and hospital back in the city
- a green screen studio
With a crew of around 25 people which includes cast, we will need to get everybody to these locations including all of the equipment we need to make the magic happen. A quick run down of items we will need to pay for includes:
- camera, cine lenses, tripod: we are filming with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera to create the most beautiful and "popping" images
- lighting, because lets face it, who doesn't need a little help from a great light
- food and drinks including healthy snacks for our hungry kids who will be performing in the short
- a bag of carrots for Tyson the rabbit as well as costs to cover his animal wrangler
- a crane! Yes indeed, for one scene we will need to suspend our daring lead actor in the air to create the effect of Bruno being swept off his feet

We want to enter "Pop" in lots of fantastic film festivals, so as you can appreciate we are striving to make a visually striking and colorful film. A lot of the funds will also go into creating this 'world' of Bruno's including:
- clown wardrobe
- lots of red noses! Seriously - we even have some as a reward for you our generous supporters
- set and production design
- balloons, balloons, balloons
- a fairy dress for the filmic debut of Tyson the Rabbit!
Lastly, to make sure "Pop" is of the highest production quality and of festival production calibre, a significant portion of the budget will be spent on post-production. This includes editing and grading the film to bring out all the bright colours and, sound design so the film really ‘pops’ plus we will need VFX to smooth it all out.
Unlike our fabulous clown "Bruno" we don't have any hidden magic tricks up our sleeve to produce money from thin air. So we are asking you, our supporters to please help us make "POP" happen.
POP - YOU GET A REWARD!

We can't wait to reward you for supporting our project and have come up with some fun stuff for you! These include Tyson beanies, red clown noses, lolly bags, advance copies of the film and if you really love us you could even be an Executive Producer or have Bruno and Dr Molly perform at your party.
OUR POP BUDGET
Because we believe in complete transparency here at "Pop", here's our budget!
Anything that you can contribute to help us make "Pop" a reality would be so very much appreciated. We thank you for your generous support.
The Challenges
Money, money and more money! Like everyone on Pozible, our real challenge is funding oh and getting our lead actor 'Bruno' suspended in the air - but that's where you can help!
"Pop" represents a strong passion we have as a team for good story telling. That includes the really important parts that go towards creating a piece of film. Filming in many different locations, wardrobe, costumes, makeup, set design, props, gear such as camera, lighting and a crane, food for all the wonderful cast and crew and Tyson. Also, all post production elements: editing, sound, and special effects which are so important and can't be arranged without paying for them. When we hit our Pozible target, you will have helped up overcome our biggest challenge and in turn created "Bruno's" world and that little bit of hope that everyone needs in their life.
So pick a reward, everything from a virtual hug to a red clown nose to a film credit. Every little bit counts and you will not only be helping us realise a dream but also creating a film that will potentially be screened at film festivals all over the world - tadah! Ultimately, with your help "POP" will be made for the world to see and enjoy and Bruno will bring a little ray of sunshine to maybe just lift up one person who needed it that day.
