HERE IS NOW is a story is about a couple, Jessica and Michael who have been married for 14 years. It is Jessica's 42nd birthday and Michael has thrown her a surprise birthday party. Whilst immersed in the day of celebration, Jessica is confronted with the state of her marriage, and questions the choices she has made that have lead her to this moment in time.

HERE IS NOW is a short film that was inspired by a theory that the cells in our bodies are renewed every 7 years and that we are in a continuous flux of change.  Our physical selves are becoming new, yet our memories always remain.

Although this change can be strange and exciting for an individual;  there is a constant tension between past and present, what we hold dear from long ago, and what must be left behind in order to move forward.

MICHAEL - SAM SMITH

Sam Smith first came to public attention in 2006 as the angst ridden ‘Pete’ in Alchemy Theatre’s production of ‘Some Voices’. The theatre company, of which Smith was a founding member, received stand out reviews and was the critics choice for best live performance for a month running.
This lead to a string of theatre performances with the company, in which time he came to the attention of CANNES Award winning director Ben Briand. Briand offered Smith the lead role of Detective Daniel Horn in the TV pilot ‘Hammer Bay’. Winner of both the MTV OPTUS 180 project and the CREATIVE annual best production long form project for 2008.
Since then, Smith has developed a strong working relationship with Briand in a number of projects, most recently the short ‘Some Static Started’ which was nominated for an AUSTRALIAN DIRECTORS GUILD award.
His theatre credits include work for The Darlinghurst Theatre Company, a tour with The Bell Shakespeare Company and most recently ‘Rust and Bone’ at The Griffin Stables Theatre.

Sam is a 2014 recipient of an Ian Potter Cultural Trust grant which afforded him the opportunity to travel to London and spend 6 months furthering his work with world renowned Meisner teacher Scott Williams of The Impulse Company.

How The Funds Will Be Used

The goal of our campaign is to raise $15,000 so we can make our story come to life. Part of this campaign will be funded by brosis. We just need some extra help to get it over the line.

The funds we raise will enable us to:
+ Hire camera equipment and lighting gear
+ Hire the main location where our story is set
+ Feed our hard working cast and crew, most who are giving their time voluntarily for this project
+ Pay for costumes for our main actors and props to fill our set

All we need is approximately 300 people to support our project by donating $50 each. (Of course we are happy if people are able to donate more!)

Please share this project with one other friend to help us reach our goal - we sincerely appreciate all the help we can get.

The Challenges

We want to take our storytelling to the next level by working with skilled lighting technicians to create experimental lighting effects for some of our memory sequences. Some of our other challenges will be filming an underwater scene and trying new film techniques which will require a steadicam operator.
