Each year the Aboriginal Walkatjurra Rangers walk the length of their traditional country in the remote Goldfields region of Western Australia, in order to connect to the land, culture and language of the ancestors. The one month long, 300km walk is undertaken with visitors and supporters to share the experience and engage people with the struggle to keep uranium mines off their land. 

2015 will be the fifth walk across country. During the walk, the Rangers check on traditional sites, water sources, sacred areas, mining operations and activities on their land. Children learn about the culture and the language associated with country.

Around 100 supporters and visitors from around the world walk with the Walkatjurra people in a moving community. Every night a camp is established, swags rolled out, fires lit, food is prepared from the food van and water is obtained from the water tank.

However, the beloved water and food van has died! The engine has given up after years and many, many miles through the bush.

The next walk across country is scheduled for mid August 2015 and the Walkatjurra Rangers desperately need to find another truck and transfer the food and water tank across in order for the walk to be undertaken.

Between walkabouts, the truck is used by the Walkatjurra Rangers for cultural excursions to Country to undertake their work of caring for sites and the land.

Your support of this project will enable the Rangers to continue their vital work looking after Country and passing on cultural learning to the younger generations!

The funds will be used to obtain a flat bed truck to be used as the food and water van for 2015. The existing food compartment and water tank will be transferred over to the new truck and the walkabout can continue!
