"The Football Diaries" is a work by Australian artist and footballer Ahilan Ratnamohan, produced by Bankstown- based Urban Theatre Projects. This show is going to South Africa during the World Cup and we need your support to make sure we are in peak condition! We're the first Australian show and company to be invited to the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, South Africa. We've also been invited to perform at the Football for Hope Festival (streetworldfootball and FIFA soccer and community development project) to over 500 youth delegates from around the world. The show then goes on to the prestigious Market Theatre in Johannesburg. Directed by Lee Wilson, the show was developed by Ahilan based on 5 years of his diary entries whilst playing football in Europe, trying to gain a European club contract. He played soccer in the Netherlands and Germany as well as trialing in Sweden with Malmö FF. On a life-long quest to create football that is beautiful, Ahilan encounters curious relationship between sport, art and philosophy. Athletic virtuosity, explosive physicality and dreams of professional football in far-flung places converge in this intimate spectacle of image, sound and body to transport the audience onto a surreal playing field.
