Directed individually The Bench is a snackable feast of eight, multi-genre short stories set on the same park bench. Through the course of the eight episodes we meet a great range of characters set in multitude of different genres; from Vampires to Girl Scouts, Time Travellers to Assassins, post-apocalyptic Australia to Sydney's first colonial settlement, and even the future and its multi-verses. The Bench really is a kaleidoscope of time & colour.


The Bench is a high quality professional independent project produced by The HubStudio. We're well know for offering some of the best training in the country, but now we want to create content as well. The Bench then is the first project from The Hub, and will act as a pilot project to prove to ourselves and others what our community of over 700 creatives is capable of making. We believe its going to be the start of something great! 

Here at the Hub, if we're going to do something we do our absolute best; second rate is just not good enough. With that philosophy comes the need to produce this project correctly. That's why we've launched this campaign. No one on this project is getting paid, it's all been for the creative goodwill and sense of community. Any, and all funds will only go to supporting that core idea - to create the absolute best project we can, to serve our community as well as we can.

Our original idea was to produce the 3 episodes as a pilot to pitch to networks, however we have had such great feedback and encouragement we've decided to complete the final 5 eps. However to do this we need to raise some funds and onboard some new supporters!! When we started it was never our initial plan to be asking for money, but to be upfront we feel its a worthwhile and exciting project to be involved in and we're looking at this campaign as as much a marketing and awareness strategy, as a fund raiser to complete the project to the level it deserves.


Already on The Bench we have spent a full year in pre-production, having chosen the 8 scripts via submission from over 50 local writers, and in the process created our own script development program. In addition, we have also now collaborated with over 70 cast, crew, writers, producers and editors. So, all in all The Bench really is a collaboration of fantastic professional talent, working together to create high quality V.O.D content, and we could not be prouder of the enormous hard work and dedication from all those involved. 

So, In a nut shell The Bench is a fantastic stand-alone piece of original Aussie entertainment, and on top of which for The Hub, it's a way of providing more opportunities for creatives, and in turn build a development and production system capable of taking seed ideas and turning them into something glorious. We invite you to be part of the journey. The Bench - Behind The Scenes

Quite simply the funds will be used to finish the last remaining 5 episodes. We have been able to make each episode very cheaply considering the scale of the project and with help from our friends at Digital Logic who have supplied us with heavily discounted equipment hire. So, majority of the funds or $11,000 will be used to pay for logistics and consumables. The last trance $5,400 will be used for post production and over runs. The bulk of the budget has been, and will be supplied by HubStudio.

The great part about The HubStudio being an EP is that we have resources at our disposal, the only downside at the moment is we simply don't have the necessary funds to complete the project. Originally we thought we could shoot it for a much less figure, however as the production scaled up, in large part to Digital Logic we quickly realised extra funding will allow the project to be a real success, and we didn't want the company to be a bottle neck to the films growth. Hence coming to Pozible. If you would like to see the project completed we urge you to join us on the journey. Not only are they 8 fantastic eps, but their also the beginning for a new chapter in the life of The Hub and the actors and creatives who support it.

Making any film large or small requires detailed planning and preparation with just enough 'crazy' to make it worth while. We have of course done our due diligence, however keeping on task and up to date are no easy feet, especially as The Bench is logistically speaking the same as producing eight individual films not one long one. So in a nutshell keeping a balance between an eye on 'one' and also 'all' at the same time is a significant challenge. The Bench must work as one project not eight seperate ideas.

Secondly is the after life of the project. We are going to pitch this show far and wide as we believe very much in its future growth, however making in roads with content is notoriously difficult and time consuming. The upside of our project is The Hub has good standing and forward momentum, we hope enough to carry this project to season 2. 

Thirdly is budget. Like any project staying on budget will be a big task. However as mentioned above having sponsorship from Digital Logic means we can access a huge range of professional equipment at a lower cost - which means we bought a Hyundai but we're driving a Ferrari. In other words our ROI on budget is almost at a 90% leverage from actual spend. So as long as we keep focused on what we 'need' rather than 'want' - we should create a high end product on low end means.
