~ABOUT THE PROJECT~
Paper Thin is a short film to raise awareness for Leukaemia through the adaptation of the famous Japanese Tale, Sadako and the One Thousand Paper Cranes. It serves to not only inspire, but give hope to those faced with the hardships of Leukaemia and other cancers.
~SYNOPSIS~
"Don't you remember that old story about the crane? It's supposed to live for a thousand years. If a sick person folds one thousand paper cranes, the gods will grant them a wish and make them healthy again." ~ This is the basis of Sadako and the 1000 Paper Cranes; a true story about hope, family and a little girl that used every ounce of her fragile body to fight against an inevitable death.
Paper Thin aims to tell Sadako Sasaki's inspirational tale without words, a story that will be translated into a language that every human being can understand – emotions. Through a combination interpretive dance and beautifully composed music, this film shall bring justice to Sadako’s story in a way that’s never been attempted before. Our talented dancer, Christina Evans (

~ABOUT THE TEAM~
Our team are made up of a small group of aspiring film makers, artists, graphic designers and composers who are all very talented in their individual fields - all of whom are volunteering their time and effort to help with this noble cause and to create something truly inspirational. Dr. Ruth MacKinnon, a research fellow at St.Vincent's Hospital's Cancer Cytogenetics Service (
http://www.svhm.org.au/services/cytogenetics/Pages/UnderstandingLeukaemia.aspx) has also been closely working with us and has been very supportive and enthusiastic of the work we have done so far.
The Essendon Symphony Orchestra has also offered to play the soundtrack composed by VCA's crafted audio engineer/composer, Daniel Hernandez to hopefully be recorded at the live room in Melbourne University.
~WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?~
Good question. With the film in its final stages of pre-production, the money we can (hopefully) raise will be used for the following:
- Fog Machine Liquid $14
- Golden Spray Paint $10
- 3 x (5x1.5)m Rolls of Paper for Golden Paper Crane $70
- Materials for 3 Costumes $100
- Flower Petals $100
- Wooden Railings for Hospital Bed $30
- Cardboard to reinforce giant Golden Crane - $50
- Melbourne University VCA's live room rent $240
- Wire and String to hold up Paper Cranes $35
This is a very low budget film due to the kindness of all the owners of our locations as well as the volunteers who are helping to make this dream become a reality. So I'd like to personally thank you for donating or even just considering to donate for this film with a cause.
Thank you very muchly xx
