THE PROJECT 

I am currently preparing for a solo exhibition. I was invited to have a solo exhibition as part of the Head On Photo Festival in Sydney. This festival is one of Australia’s largest photo festivals.

I will be one of the featured artist's in the festival program - see my exhibition featured here on the Head On website https://headon.com.au//node/12315

This new photographic series I am wanting to exhibit, ‘Around The House’ has recently gone viral globally and been featured on over 50 websites internationally including Decay/Beautiful.com, javascript:nicTemp();, Artrebels - javascript:nicTemp();, Art Sponge, Flavorwire, Featureshoot.com,ThePicturesMag.co.uk, Revistatrip.uol.com.br, RadioSarajevo.ba and featured on the official tumbler of SFMOMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art) among many others.

In total I am asking for your help to raise $3,000.

The funds will go towards return flights from Melbourne to Sydney, Gallery hire, Printing and Framing costs.

Whatever you are willing to invest will help me to reach this goal, simply promoting your interest in my work on social media will be incredibly valuable and greatly appreciated.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Series Title – “Around The House”

Jana Maré’s recent practice explores performance in front of the camera using the artist’s body.

Using the artist’s body in open natural light, the work exhibited explores interior spaces, the psychology of the home left empty and forgotten. The body emerges as furniture, a part of the architecture, the foundations, lending to this space an exposed human presence, camouflaged and part of the urban interior landscape.

Maré states “To perform in front of camera – to appear sculptural and at times lifeless – makes me feel alive, especially inside forbidden environments with limited time to photograph. The work is intuitive with a sense of urgency and spontaneity.”

WHO I AM

My name is Jana Maré and I am an Australian photographer, based in Melbourne, currently undertaking a Masters of Fine Art (Photography) at RMIT University.

I have completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Photography) (First Class Honours) and a Bachelor of Media Arts (Fine Art Imaging) from RMIT University.

My photographs have been exhibited in numerous galleries; I have been the recipient of photographic awards and have recently been published in Australian Creative - The Annual and Capture - The Annual. 

I have most recently been awarded winner of Australia's Top Emerging Photographers 2013 in the Student category by Capture Magazine.
