THE BLUE MOSQUITOES

We are a family folk band from Hobart, Tasmania. Amongst us, there are brothers and sisters, twins and cousins, friends and foes, all coming together as one big bowl (or band) of Tasmanian gene soup.

We began playing music together nearly seven years ago, when the youngest of the group, Stuart, was just a bowl-cut boy of 10. We have played music together in one context or another, every week of our lives since then.

THE TOUR

 

This June we head off for England, beginning our seven week tour in London.

We have twenty-five shows booked across the UK, with performances in pubs, folk clubs and festivals.

With an average of four shows a week, we are preparing for a busy schedule, as well as the 3,078 miles of driving between towns!

Christopher Coleman is joining our touring party, as support act for the shows. Christopher is beautiful songwriter and performer, as well as a good friend, and we are very excited to share the stage with him on this tour.

THE COST

As you can imagine, touring on the other side of the world doesn't come cheap!
When booking and organizing this tour, we aimed to work each aspect of the tour in the most cost-effective way possible. So we booked us some dorms, cut back our baggage ("There are only three guitarists coming guys, do we really need six guitars?") and planned a circular route around England and Scotland, without zig-zagging or back-tracking.

Our costs include:

- Flights for seven musicians
- 53 nights of accomodation
- 7 weeks of van hire
- Petrol to get us between the 25 towns

Fortunately, we have already been able to pay for our flights, accomodation and van hire. All we need now is to keep that tank full.

We have calculated that we will need $1,500 AUD to cover our petrol, and for this, we are asking for you help.

THE LAST TIME AROUND

Over the past seven years, we have had many proud achievements, but the highlight for all of us so far has been our 2011 UK tour.

The fact that we were able to survive each other's company after six weeks in a van together, has unanimously been decided as the biggest achievement, music or non-music related, of any of our lives to date.

The fact that we were able to thoroughly enjoy ourselves, is quite incomprehensible to anyone who has exeprienced Hannah's temper, Christopher's gas, or Stuart's general annoying behaviour.

With the experience of our last tour under our respective belts, we feel confident and prepared to make this one bigger and better. With your help, we look forward to taking Tasmanian folk music back to its roots.
