For longer then I can remember, I've been working toward one goal - to become an actor. During year 12 last year, I applied for a number of acting courses in Australia and in the US. I wrote essays, asked for numerous references from teachers, friends and family, and recorded audition tapes. It all seemed way out of reach, but I knew what my goal was. I started the process that I expected would take many years to achieve, but to my utter amazement, in March this year, I was accepted into the American Academy of Dramatic Arts on Madison Avenue, New York City!
This is where stars including Anne Hathaway, Grace Kelly, Kim Cattrall and Spencer Tracy studied and it's the oldest acting school in the English-speaking world.
After the initial shock and utter incomprehension subsided, the reality of this dream came to light. In order for me to go, I need $52,000, per year - $30,000 in course fees and $22,000 to live on campus. The course lasts two years, with the chance of a third if you are invited into their Academy Company. So I may need $150,000.
As you can imagine, my family and I are doing everything we can to get me there. My mum and sister are even renting a smaller apartment to try and save some money! We've paid the deposit and I've been secured a place for September this year. We have all the passion and drive in the world, but when it comes down to it, we need help to finance the dream. It's one thing to act in plays, to be my school's Arts Captain, to study dance, music and theatre in Melbourne as I have done for the last 13 years. It's quite another to take years of training to America.
Please help me reach the goal I've been working towards for the past 13 years.
