Starting on the 26th of January 2012, aboriginal rights activists, supporters and founding members of the tent embassy will come together over three days to commemorate and celebrate the 40th anniversary of what has been one of Australia's most successful and historically significant protests.
The embassy was started in 1972 by a group of young Aboriginal activists from Redfern, disheartened by political inaction and obstruction to Aboriginal land rights. Over the following months the embassy quickly became a rallying point for activism and progress, undoubtedly galvanizing much of the social capital that lead to early action on land rights for Aboriginals.
Some amazing historic footage of the original protests from the film Ningla A-Na (1972) can be viewed here:

Despite pressure, the tent embassy has continued to exist thanks to the help and support of its supporters.
Funds are needed for tents, marquees and other expenses associated with hosting singers, dancers, art and craft stalls and other entertainment.
All supporters of Aboriginal rights and progress are welcome to come share and enjoy this historic celebration!
